Long grain rice is. It has a low GI Index and will keep yopu full longer. Watch portion sizes and don't overdo the salt when cooking it.

Rice is not a bad food for people who want to lose weight. In Africa lots of people eat rice and lose a lot of weight because they do not have much else to eat with it. In China rice is one of the main foods eaten and there are not that many fat people in China compared to the West. Ideally you should eat a balanced diet including five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.Rice potatoes and pasta are all carbohydrates and should be eaten in moderation. The best way to lose weight is to cut down on snacks such as crisps/chips, biscuits, chocolate, sweets - instead eat fruit - drink plenty of water - about 2 litres a day and take more exercise. Diets generally don't work!! Think how many people you know who have tried different diets and even if they lose weight initially they almost always put it back on. Then they try another one...and another. What you need to do is change your lifestyle!!!

1/2 cup of brown rice served with 3-4 ounces lean meat (chicken breast, for instance) and 1-2 vegetables is a good balanced meal.

And rice cakes are now crunchy, and come it lots of tasty flavors if you are looking for a low cal snack.

Eating lots of rice is not good for losing weight, and white rice especially. Think about it this way, Sumo wrestlers eat huge bowls of rice as part of their strategy to GAIN weight.

Dear god no! In moderation, rice is good for maintaining weight. But because rice (espcially white rice) is mainly carbohydrate, I would not advise eating a large portion of rice if you seek to lose weight. Stick to things that have less carbs (vegetables, lean meats, fish, some fruits).

Nope, rice is a naughty food. If you want to seriously lose weight. Try eating smaller portions. You can eat what you want, but use a dessert plate instead of a dinner plate. And no seconds. The weight will fall off. As for snacking.............carrot sticks work great.

not really since it's starch (like potatoes). my mom started eating brown rice last year, and it helped her lose a LOT of weight. the problem is, it takes longer to cook and doesn't taste as good. :)

Hey have you tried the South Beach Diet? I hate all the diets that go around but it really seems to work. Also Herbalife is a good, healthy way to lose weight.

brown rice is ok but just eat small portions. If it tastes bland just adds some spices while cooking

Its all in the preperation.
If its prepared with cooking spray and not butter or oil, then, its pretty healthy. Eating it out is bad, full of oil. At home, fine. Cooked properly, its better than broccoli with cheese.
