Lifting weights is actually the least qualified way to lose weight. Your better bet is aerobic exercise, and given your age and knee replacements, I would suggest water aerobics.
Not only will weight lifting disappoint you in weight loss results, it is also dangerous to lift weights without proper training and assistance.
Moreover, joining a water aerobics class, you'll have opportunity to socialize, meet other people who have the same goals as you do and help you keep motivated as well as share fun and laughter.
Consider increasing your protein intake slightly. Studies have shown that adding even as little as 5% more protein to the daily diet has resulted in permanent weight loss.
I can see you already, slimmer, more agile, and a lot happier :)

You could purchase light handweights and do lunges, squats, arm presses (bicep & tricep) which are very effective workouts.

Also, visit this website for ideas on exercises you could do as well as pictures to help guide. http://exercise.about.com/cs/exerciseworkouts/l/blseniorwkout.htm

Good luck!!
