I have a 2003 Dodge Neon 5-speed and would like to convert it to an automatic transmission. What will the conversion cost approximately? Would it be more advantageous to simply trade-in the Neon for an automatic vehicle? Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

Your best bet is to go on ebay, buy a slightly used automatic tranmission made for a Neon (still in working condition), sell yours, then take it to a mechanic or transmission specialist. When all is said and done (assuming you got a fair price for your transmission), I would estimate at least a grand or two. I would think that it would be easier to instead find a used Neon or other car that comes with an autmatic. I would recommend the new Toyota Yaris. It costs about $10,000 for an automatic transmission model and probably only a few grand when you trade in your Neon (the blue book says the minimun is $7000 for an 03 Neon). Believe me, Toyota quality would save you a lot of money that your Neon will end up costing in repairs over the years.

Anything is possible. The complete transaxle assembly will have to be changed. All the underhood wiring pertaining to the operation of an electronic transmission, plus the applicable control modules will have to be installed. Unless you are a very industrious mechanic that has unlimited resources and patience, it would be better to trade for something that is already equipped the way you want it.

just look for someone that wants to trade or look for a racer that's automatic and ask him they always need a stick shift
