in the last year i have had a sharp pain in my sternum maybe twice before, where it lasts for a little while. then went away. Well now it is back, this is day 3 of the constant pain. It gets worse when I breathe in, and i have a shortness of breath. I am also weezing on and off, a doctor has said i have asthma, but the inhaler has never worked, so don't know for sure if that has been really the problem. Has anybody had this or know what it could be?

PS. the sternum pain is worse in the morning, ive tried mylanta incase it was an acid or heartburn thing, and that doesn't work.

Today I went to the walk in clinic, they did an EKG and a chest X-ray, both came back normal, and she basically told me to make an appt. with a Dr. - can't get in to see anyone for 2 weeks, what now??

squirt, you might want to get it checked out asap! chest pain+shortness of breath could be heart related. If you have asthma, it could also be walking pneumonia,or pneumonia, which my asthmatic son gets frequently.

Back muscles refering pain...
Muscles can have knots (trigger points) that make them tight which in turn put pressure on nerves and other things causing pain.
Molasses - a couple of swigs or Bananas 1 or 2 - both contain magnesium and potassium for muscles.
Try working with the principles taught in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I use a chiropractor and massage therapist with it
