Yes it certainly is different; if you're on income support, any child tax credit will be removed from the benefit, and you won't get working tax credit. You will resume receiving wtc when you get back to work, and only if your salary is below the cap for the credit. Your child credit will also resume with your income, and be dependent upon it.

Hope this helps - go to:

Hi, if you receive income support you will continue to receive child tax credit. Working tax will stop as you are only eligible for this if you work 16+ hours a week.

If you are on Income support, you are eligible for housing benefit, council tax benefit etc.......

Child tax credit provides extra income if you are bringing up children.

The Child Tax Credit system run by the Department of Work and Pensions is pretty fantastic. Childcare costs do get paid for too, up to 75% of the cost, and that goes directly to the carer. (The carer cannot be a family member and must be an approved childminder). Make sure you keep them updated to any changes to your income because if your income were to fluctuate - like if you cut your hours - you let them know and your Working Tax Credits will go up to compensate. It's an excellent system that means we can spend time with the children without having to worry.

WTC is payable for people in low paid work
CTC is payable for families with children (whether theyare
working or not) paid on top of child benefit..

If you are receiving income support and u r over 16 and responsibe for a child, you will receive CTC in addition to.

If you are working 16 hours or more per week and u are single parent you can apply for both tax credits.

you have to be working to receive tax credits in any form you are not so you get income support
if your partner lives with you & works you can get both forms of tax credits
