A pug is perfect for a toddler but once the kids start going to school you really want a collie or something along those lines... if the little ones are still into the whole riding thing by high school you really want like a St Bernard or something or I guess you could lash two poodles together....

No dog has the correct spinal structure for weight bearing. Extra weigh will damage hips and spine. However, any medium sized, well built dog can pull a small cart or wagon.
For riding, you will need a pony or donkey.

there was a fad of people taking their dogs hiking, and using saddle bags for the dog to carry his own food and supplies. These dogs seemed fine at first, but shortly began to have early arthritis, slipped elbows, and other skeletal problems...Just as a dog does if it is overweight.
I am sure you were joking, but thought that canine weight bearing deserved an answer anyway..

A pug is definitely too small, but canines don't generally enjoy being ridden. I'd suggest entertaining your kids by getting them some dog toys and treats and letting them play fetch with your pug instead.

I wouldn't let kids ride dogs no matter what size they are. This can cause severe back problems and lead to arthritis as they get older. Please don't do this to your dog (if you are even serious!). A pug is not capable of holding the weight of any human, big or small.

First off, a pug will never get big enough for a kid to ride it and second-dogs are not ment to be ridden..

Are you serious? Maybe someone should put a saddle on you and ride you around for awhile, that way you'll know how the poor dog will feel. People like you shouldn't have dogs. Maybe I'll find out who you are and tell the humane society.

Don't do it, especially with a small dog like a pug. The spinal discs could be pushed out of place.

Instead of a saddle, i suggest a cart, or maybe a sled. Pugs are remarkably adept as cart pullers...as the following video will demonstrate:

(I am not sure i would try this with the *cat*, however.)

Big enough so that when the kid hops up into the saddle the dog's belly will still be off the ground.

Come here - *whapow!*

You deserved that. haha!

You shouldn't do that or else the dog will have a broken back.Especially with a pug.
