Yes the pain is normal. You are using muscles to help keep your spine straighter that you didn't use when you slouched.

It's surprising that a doctor should say this as the term is no longer used. There are a number of reasons for a curvature of the spine and in most of them some form of exercise can improve things. The sort of exercises you need to do and the amount of pressure you need to apply will depend on the exact cause. If it's a result of poor posture the approach will be slightly different to a problem arising from stiff joints. get the diagnosis and you will have a better idea how to exercise. Another talk with the same doctor would be useful to clarify this.

You may be having spondlytus conditions, which is where the spine starts to loose its cushions between the vertebrates, and when you try to sit up and not slouch, it stretches the muscles in such a way that they are taught from the collapse, and hence pain,Consult your GP as to what exercises would help you without causing to much pain.

This pain is probably just because you're not used to sitting in the correct posture and your muscles are having to work really hard to keep you there.
Sitting with poor posture for a long time can lead to lengthening and weakening of the back muscles which makes it more difficult for them to keep you in an erect position. Persevere with it and it should get easier.
If your 'hunchback' is an actual bony deformity, however, it will be impossible to correct with simple posture exercises.

Glenwyns' Academy for Young Women make girls with bad posture sit for 3 hours a day with an ironing board strapped to their back. You should give it a go as many patients I have treated with this remedy have phoned to thank me and have given very positive feedback, although their clothes may be slightly wrinkled.

I would think so. It is proabably caused by the curving of oyur spine and when you try to straighten it, it will hurt. Talk to your doctor more about your condition. As for some information about it from him. Your doctor should be more than happy to give you that!
