Im wanting to get my first tattoo. 3 flowers all wiht significant meaning.
whill a tattoo going up the side of your body (from hip to ribcage) be effected if i ever were to get pregnant?(im not planning on having kids but i know i shoudl take it into consideration if i were to change my mind lol)
so would pregnancy effect that area?
i know it would effect the pelvic area like down and to the left of the navel (i orignainnally wanted it there) would pregnancy effe t that are? i hear sometimes it does or sometimes it doesnt..
will a side tattoo "excentuate" my curves? that would be nice =]
lol finally! would you choose a side ribcage tattoo or a shoulder tattoo.. i hear rib tattoos is a very sensitive area. but i have a high pain tolerance.. i dislocated my knee and didnt shed a tear! just laid there and wished i was at home (10th grade p.e. class LAST DAY OF IT!) haha just my luck!!!
which would you choose?
tahnk you very much! =D

i was thinking it would be about 5 to 7 inches AT THE LARGEST so it could be smaller than 5 inches.. i dont care about showing it off while in a swim suit or whatever.

I think ribcage tattoos are very sexy. Go with that idea, if YOU want. As far as pregnancy goes, there may be some stretch mark issues. I understand that if you keep lotion on the areas that are prone to stretch marks, you can slim the chances of having them. If you take care of your self after the baby is born, IE: get back in shape (you know what I mean) the tat should be fine.

I personally think you should go for the shoulder blade tattoo instead of the ribcage one. when the skin changes the tattoo changes. If you gain weight the skin expands and so does the tattoo.same if you lose weight the skin either shrinks or sags and so does the tattoo. Not to mention stretch marks just in case you ever do get pregnant, heaven forbid,LOL but stretch marks will go right through a tattoo too. I have 24 tattoos and the arms legs and back and chest are the best spots for them but hands work well with tattoos too. I have 4 on my hands. Skip the neck it makes it look like a dirty neck. Yuch! And please none on your face!

Ribcage tattoos absolutely kill, so if this is your first tattoo, get it somewhere else. Pregnancy would stretch it out, because the skin on your sides is stretched by the extra mass up front. Consider yourself warned- even a high pain tolerance won't make the pain of getting your ribcage tattooed any more bearable. It is incredibly painful, and definately not a good choice for a first tattoo. Your shoulder would be much less painful, and let you know what kind of pain being tattooed entails.

Pregnancy can have a slight effect on tattoos considering the stretching of the skin, but really, only if stretch marks occur. Keep in mind that young people with good skin elasticity get pregnant, so there should not be any significant change to your post-pregnant tattoo.
Location has so much to do with the actual design and I always defer to client/artist consultation on this. We take into consideration the muscle complexes, movement of the area, bone structure, size, etc.
"Try on" your design in multiple locations if you are not sure - it generally will hit you in the mirror when you see the best!

It's hard to say because honestly....all different people gain differently...sorry to be so vague. I didn't get my tattoo until after I had my daughter just to be on the safe side. I know people in my moms group that gained 100 lbs and are still trying to lose the weight and I only gained a total of 30lbs. I was fortunate and able to lose it all and my body wasn't really affected. It's good that you're thinking ahead about this.
If you're really concerned about distorting your tattoo, I would either wait until after you've had kids or tattoo your shoulder or closer to the center of your back.

I really wish spell check was available for the additional comments!!
A tattoo is affected by any change in the shape or texture of your skin, and pregnancy is a BIG change. If you're concerned about how a pregnancy will affect a tattoo, don't get one, at least not anywhere near your abdomen... put the tat on your shoulder blade or somewhere on your back, or on your leg or arm, NOT on your side, or between your ribcage and crotch.
Yes, a tat on your sidemay accentuate (SP!!) your curves, but again, there's your concern regarding stretching...

I think it iwould be pretty, but the rib cage tattoo should probably be sort of big. It depends on what size you want. I wouldn't imagine that pregnancy would effect the side area.

ok i have several tats, and the one that was on my hip is an absolute MESS from getting preg. don't get it on your side , if you wnat to do ribs, go towardsthe back.
as stated before by others this is EXTREMELY painful!, get your first tat on your shoulder or between your shoulder blades. this is also an more "socially acceptable" place for women to have a tattoo. just my 2 cents

the only thing that would be affected is if the tattooed skin stretched. then it might look funny. and yes, ribs hurt.
