I want to take up photography as a hobby this summer. I don't know much about cameras other than the $20 one a purchased at CVS. I want to pay about $100 and get something small and easy to carry around to photograph buildings and nature. Can someone give me any suggestion about which TYPE (digital or film & 3mm, point and shoot, etc.) and BRAND I should buy?

Get a 35mm Canonet QL17 GIII off of Ebait. Quiet, fast, non- intrusive street shooter. An Olympus XA is also an easy to carry sharp shooter..

Hello! As a photographer I'll try to help. If you had around $200 I'd recommend a Canon EOS SLR to start you off really good. You might could find a decent digicam for $100, but I'd recommend either a Canon Sure Shot point and shoot OR an Olympus Stylus type. You should get something that is AUTO FOCUS, auto revind and has at least 90-120mm of zoom. This will make things further from you be closer. You could get the Canon Sure shot 115u with its easy events selection, or the Olympus Stylus. They usually start around 38mm-115/120mm of zoom. This a decent amount of zoom. As for film, I'd recommend 400 speed Fuji... a good all around speed. The drawback with point and shoots are that you have to watch for parallax errors from being too close. The top part of your image would get cut off. Digicams are real nice, but film just seems better in my mind. With SLR's you can change the lenses for different uses. Go with a major name as their products have more history and can be relied upon. Good luck.

Look, don't eschew the $1.00 cameras at Wal-Mart. buy some of those(sometimes you can get multipacks)and practice taking photos with those. Some do very well and you can practice on them until you are satisfied and not out too much money. They are 35 mm and you can get some good shots with those. Of course you can also get nice digital camera on clearance there as well and can download onto your computer.

First get a digital, nothing less than 4 megapixals. Film is expensive and you only want to print the really good ones. Get the biggest optical soom you can
