I love this question. K, let me tell you I'm a parent, and I have tattoos, and have had as many as 13 piercings at one time. My first body piercing was on my 18th birthday night. That tongue piercing has been removed and closed twice, due to the need for a job, and the company's rules. I now have it pierced for a third time, but have scar tissue because of my multiple piercings. I also have a scar under my lip from a labret piercing I got too old to want.
I would let my 15-16 year old daughter pierce certain body parts, around the ear, perhaps a small nose stud, or a belly button, if she was responsible enough. But nowhere else, until she was 18. In fact, I find many piercings to be inappropriate for mainstream, and for young people. Even in the piercing world, there are boundaries.
When I was young, I used to say that piercing is no big deal - at least you can take a piercing out, unlike a tattoo, for church/job/school/whatever. But the truth is, it will leave a scar, so to some extent you will have to live with your choice for always. If your mom is not hip to it, then just be patient, and spend your 3 year wait finding the absolute best shop in your area, and picking out the perfect piercing.
And when you get it, follow the care instructions well! Treat your piercing well and it will be good to you.

My daughter could get one hole in each ear but as far as anything else no not until she is not living in the same home with me. I had my bellybutton, tounge, and nipples done and managed to hide it from my parents for quite some time but now that I'm a parent I totally would not let my little girl do it until she moves out. Yes, I know I'm a hipocrite but sometimes your feelings change when you have your own baby and I definatly did as well as I took all my piercings out so my daughter can't use that against me in the future I'm over having piercings other than one hole in my ears.

I will allow my son to get his ear pierced before he's 18, but nothing else. Same thing goes for any daughters I might have. Also, I want to know that they will be able to take care of it properly by themselves.
Why? Because I'm the momma. Because I feel anything more than an ear piercing is inappropriate and unnecessary for a teen, and because chances are they'll one day regret it anyway.

Ok I'm 33, I have a 14 year old daughter and I would have no problem letting her get a piercing if she wanted it. IF it wasn't somewhere like her nipple, or her genital area. I have my nostril pierced, my tongue pierced, my fiance has his septum (the space between the nostrils) and his anti-brow pierced, so obviously we're very open minded people. I think piercings are a form of self-expression and we want to do all we can these days to a certain extent to allow our young women to express themselves, and to be who they are without worrying about what anyone else thinks. I think a piercing is a harmless way of doing that. And remember, if she wants it taken out later, it only leaves a tiny scar at most.

I have one daughter so my answer pertains to her, not any hypothetical sons.
Earlobes are fine (she got those pierced at 4 months), but I'd hesitate to let her get the tops of her ears done... Belly button? No, too sexy. She could pierce her nose with a tiny diamond stud - I think that looks exotic and beautiful, but no hoops or large pieces of jewelry. No other facial piercings.

Under 16 ears only, over 16 small nose stud, belly button OK. Tongue should be avoided by all it causes to much dental damage. I'd even consider eyebrow. I'd rather it be done properly in a reputable shop than by some guy with a needle and a cold potato.

No, not piercing or tattoos. My daughters best friend got a small tattoo and a nose stud last year. The tattoo was a humming bird on ankle and about 1/2 in by 1 in, the stud was "small emerald and tastefull" The girl was 14 and now she is sorry because she says "All adults inc you treat me different. The teachers all liked me now they think I am not as good a student I get lumped in with the bad crowd. The boys think I am a tramp and will have sex with anyone.
I am a good girl still but no one believes it!"

First of all, I think it would depend WHERE!!!! Now days there are so many different spots that can get pierced. But, if it were the nose, belly button, lip, eye brow...stuff like that, then yes, I would!!! I don't think theres a problem with that. After all, its better than getting a tattoo, which is completely permanent.
And I would say that my daughter would have to save her own money to get it done!!!

It depends. Pierced bellybuttons aren't so bad - a shirt can cover it when it needs to be covered. Eyebrows HURT. (Been there, done that.) Pierced tongue or nipples are a little tacky. A small nose piercing might be okay - depending on your life. (if you work in a record store or trendy clothing store, it fits in.) Pierced ear cartilage has a large likelyhood of getting BADLY infected - many people have to have the area surgically removed, so that's the one I'm totally against. (And "south of the border" ones are just gross.)

I wouldnt allow a tounge ring , belly ring or nipple rings ears yes multiple holes in ears depends on her maturity. Why not becasue they are probably doing it because they saw someone else with it someone they may feel is a role model but you do not. Also because I own that body until they turn 18.
