I just started a new job, there was this one boy that would not leave me alone, I am trying to make a good first impression on the job so I can keep the job. How do I tell him to back off without being mean?

I would be straight with him, just like you were with us. Tell him that you're flattered by his attention, but that the job is really important to you right now and you just aren't interested. If he doesn't back off, I would let your immediate supervisor know what's going on. Good luck.

In this situation its about your well being both for your job and for peace of mind. So, You are going to just have to say can I talk to you? And then tell him firm but calmly that you are there to do a job and be good at it and are not looking for anyone or anything else while you are there,so to please leave you be.Say no offense, and your probably a nice guy and would be fine with just talking and having a normal work relationship but that's all it can be and how you want it to be.
More than likely he will understand and let you be.If not then he is a over barring creep that don't take no for an answer and if so, you go to your boss and let them know how he is being and explain to them that you tried to be nice and tell him to stop but he didn't listen.Let them deal with him then. Its your job and future,do what you must to keep it the way you need it to be for you.

Unfortunately, you may HAVE to be mean. Maybe you could just tell him what you just said in your question. Tell him that you really want to keep this job and make a good impression and you dont think your boss would approve of you guys talking so much.
If that doesnt work, just tell him that you think hes a good guy but youre really not interested.

In todays job market, a big thing for men and women alike is sexual harrassment. On the bulletin board in the back there should be a copy of this federal law. Take it down and make a copy of it, set it by his workstation with a hand written note on it from you to knock it off. Good luck.

It's called sexual harassment and it is a serious offense he could be fired for on the spot. This is your job - you should not worry about being mean.

people like this boy exists everywhere ,especially when there's a new someone on the job. for them its an adventure a challenge. especially if there other men or if they want to get someone envious. this is not always the case. only my theory. or possibly he'/s really attracted to you . its in your hands whether to lead or not

If you like the guy, then explain it to him. If not, and he is crushing on you, just do it. You will probably have to be a little mean about it, but that way will be easier for both of you.

Tell him thanks for the offers but you are already seeing someone.
If that doesn't work you could always tell him one day you aren't going to be working because you need to go for your yearly STD check and you aren't sure if they will need to treat you on the spot or if you can go home for it. I'm sure he will lose interest in you then LOL

Be mean. That is the only way he will back off.

Just keep ignoring him, pass being polite, just blatantly avoiding. One of two things will happen. One, He'll just stop and get it. Two, he won't get it and try something desperate that you can document as harassment.
