Feed a good quality food - Royal Canin or Neutro is good. Not Whiskas, or Iams or a grocery store brand as they can cause urinary infections and crystals as well as they don't provide proper nutrience so your cat is lacking in it's diet.
Make sure to have fresh water placed in more then on location in the house, to encourage it to drink lots.
Brush it daily to remove excess fur to cut down on hair balls.
Play lots to give it excercise.
Take it for regular yearly checkups.

First of all, talk to your vet. They can tell you a great deal of wonderful stuff to keep that little cat healthy and happy.
Good food. High protein, fairly high fat (for kittens) and low in ash content. You want a food that is more acidic than base to keep the Urinary tract healthy. IAMS used to be really good but has been sold to Proctor and Gamble and the formula has changed to poorer quality ingredients. We still feed it without any problems. If I have problems I go with a vet clinic suggestion such as Science Diet or other equivalent.
Give the cat some activity incentives. Simple toys and your attention daily. You may even want to consider another kitten/cat as company for the first. Not that much more work and endless fun for both you and the other kitten/cat.

Definitely keep your kitty inside. It may seem that you are denying him his natural instincts but that is not true. Why do you think kitties play? :) Speaking of play, try to play with him for at least 15 minutes per day. Good exercise and it's also good bonding time for you and your kitty. Feed him the same brand of food, the same time everyday (my kitties always have a bowl of dry food and get fed canned food twice a day). Kitties appreciate consistancy and could become distressed if their routine is thrown off (try even scooping the litter box at the same time). Of course, take him to the vet regularly and give him lots of love!

ABSOLUTELY! The number ONE thing you can do is keep your cat INDOORS at all times. There is NOTHING "out-there" for them except perhaps other stray cats with diseases, cat fights and the accompanying vet bill (s), the obvious--getting hit by cars, chased by and/or caught by and killed by a dog. You will have a much happier, healthier cat with a very long life if he/she is kept indoors. Keep this in mind.
