I looked at some puppies that were supposedly chow but they looked part black lab to me. The lady passed them off as American chows which she says are different from chinese chows. Is this true because I didn't buy it.

NO such thing as an American Chow, With out paper they are an mutt chow and the lady was just pulling your leg so she didnt look like the true dumbass she is and sucker you into paying money for a mutt. Your instinct is probably correct and they are the dog down the streets puppies. If you dont mind a mixed breed dog and you like chows then get a puppy but dont let her fool you into buying that dog and the prestige of owning an "American" Chow. Did she use the phrase "All American "? that usually is a semi clever dorkus trying to pull your leg and really just means Heinz 57 purebred MUTT puppy.

There is not such thing as an American Chow.
Someone is trying to pass off poorly bred chows or mixed breed puppys.

No such thing as an American Chow, onlt the Chow-Chow breed. Ask her for AKC papers on the pups and see if she can produce them.

..sounds like a back yard breeder chow to me. Keep looking for a better,more responsible breeder.
