I agree with your definition. But speaking as a Christian, fornication is not a "Christian Fundi" invention to demonize sex. Sex along with marriage is an institution of God (established in Genesis).
As with schools, hospitals or other institutions Sex comes with specific guidelines for participation. Fornication is the act of particiapting without meeting the necessary guidlines (i.e. not being married).
