One of my friends from the shelter I volunteer at told me that I should check out the Dog area here because it's fun. Ive been looking through questions and keep seeing someone being very mean and nasty to people. Whats up with that? Isn't this forum about dogs?

umm as you have found out there are a lot of "Trolls" here and you will find about 50% nasty people and 50% people that are decent and willing to give good, informative answers, you just have to ignore those that are being stupid and nasty. Really those people have no lives and think its funny, which really all it shows is they are uneducated and ridiculously socially inept. Though sometimes people ask some REALLLLY dumb questions and then in that fact I have a great time being mean to them, they deserve it.

Yep, this place is about dogs, but there are always stupid people who like to insult others, and are just bad. I'm not scared to say I have given some pretty rude answers, but that is to some really stupid questions.

Just ignore the dorks and you'll be fine.

Welcome, Jake. Unfortunately, there are some people here that put others down for asking questions either because they have nothing better to do, or would like to think they're better than everyone else, or they're just plain ornery. Just ignore them. Responding would just be stooping to their childish level, and we would all like to think we're mature adults (or responsible young adults) here. Just keep asking questions, and we'll help if we can. That's why Yahoo!Answers was created after all.

Welcome and have fun.
"trolls" those nasty people that have nothing better to do than be annoying, can only be stopped if (thank yahoo for adding this) you report abuse!!
I'm not talking about the people that give idiotic answers just to gain points.. I'm talking about those Stupid people that suggest harming ANY animal.
Pets is my favorite area to read and answer.

Just ignore the idiots. Unfortunately some people have nothing better to do with their time than to come here and act like a moron.

some people just think that they can get on here and vent their anger and hatred at the world on here and not get reported like with the answer some "body" and I use the term loosely did to you in the first answer, just report him and keep reporting people like that until Yahoo bans them as this is not the place for them to be, this is a place to get help not to call other users names.

Yeah, there's a bit of that going on around here. You just have to ignore it. There's plenty of nice and helpful folks around, I'm sure you'll figure out who they are if you hang out for a bit.

chances are these dogs have been abused by someone before they got there or they are just not sure what to do now keep working with them and they will eventually see that they are ok
