Here is the best way to get to the yummy part of an avacado.

Slice it in half.
Using a large knife thrust it into the pit about midway down the knife blade and then turn the knife and that will loosen the pit. Discard the pit.
With the peel still on and holding one half in your palm, use the other hand to slice it (with a paring knife) almost down to the peel leaving the peel intact . You can slice it the other direction also if you want it diced.
Invert the peel and the dices/slices will come right out. ENJOY!!

You can't eat the peel, so you either have to peel them or follow the above suggestion about cutting them in half, removing the pit and scooping out the pulp.
I like to eat avocados as a snack, so I usually cut length-wise sections from 'globe to globe'. Then each section comes off the pit easily. I then just eat the pulp off the peel after sprinkling a little salt and/or lemon-pepper on them.
Avocado is also really good when you add some balsamic vinegar to it.

You can't use the avacodo peel (or the giant pit) for anything, but it's MUCH easier to cut the avocado in half (from top to bottom, not across the middle), remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Actually peeling it would be messy, and take alot more time. And, if you're careful, you can use the scooped-out skins as little serving bowls for your guacamole, or as garnish.

Not peel as in with a potato peeler, but you do have to take the skin off and take out the pit. Cut it top to bottom around the pit, twist it into two halves, whack the pit with a sharp knife and it will come right out. Then I cut each half in half, and the skin peels right off. Then you can easily slice them.

I think you have to peel, because you can't eat the back you just have to peel it or cut it into paths and bring out the food to eat. so all is peel.

nope. cut them in half (around the big pit in the middle), then you should be able to pop it open and pick the pit out easily...
then you take a spoon and eat it straight from the peel. mmmmmmmmmm
