BLAH BLAH Some long winded answers with some good content, but I like boiling it down a lil... or alot. Each person each style is different. You need to implement your strategy that best defeats, negates, defends against your opponent's, while utilizing your skills and knowledge.

It's all about playing to your strengths and your enemies weaknesses. Win the fight before you even throw a punch. For some fighting in a physical sense isn't their strong point, but maybe they are fast, maybe they are smart, maybe they are just personable enough to avoid confrontation that way. Maybe they can win over a crowd and make the other person look like a chump.

As for the KO, If someone KOs an opponent punch, kick, whatever clearly they chose the right time and place. Sometimes the chances may be slight, but that doesn't mean a technique can't work in a given situation. Don't chalk it up to luck, give the victor the respect he deserves. If your the victim, does it matter whether it was "boxer's luck"?

Wall, you forgot, THE LOAFER!!!

there is a lot of difference between a trained Martial Artist and a common street fighter.
think about how much fighing you do in an average week.. in your dojo/dojang if you make a mistake some one shows you how to maximize your atack or defense where as some one on the streetonly ends up getting hurt and then attempts to learn the hard way

at a Martial Arts school they will show you how to fight the right way and will excersice your body to shape it specifically for fighting and defending, you will know how to kick faster, punch harder, and get hurt less then the average individual.

and as far as the mental game goes, think of it like this every time your average street fighter gets into a confrontation they fight for a short amount of time and only hurt each other. whilst a Martial Artist fights many times a week against many sizes and types of people. we know what it feels like to fight, we know how to deal with diffrent individuals we are mentally prepared to defend our selves

with Martial Arts you will dominate over the average enemy not only in tech. but at a mental level as well

and when you fight you fight to the end .. you try to finish it as quickly as possible the final punch is the one that knocks them out, it is hard to plan you just keep going untill you can stop or keep them from harming you any more. besides kicks work better

This is to ask is there a differenc between a house cat and a Tiger.

What do you think?

Which do you want to be?

And why?

To be a Tiger requires work and living in the jungle. Fighting the jungle and coming out on top is not an easy thing.

THe mind changes and the body must also.

Live easy and you are easy to kill--end of story.

UHHHH... Ok I think I get what your trying to say, something like trained martial artist versus street fighter ? There isn't much difference except for the training.
As for finishing a fight, I use multiple strikes.

we are the product of our social conditioning and upbringing. our dreams, fears, experience all dictate our reactions. we all act and react differently because of our expectations and analysis of the scenario.

even though you may be the same as the other person, as you are not fighting someone who is moving as you are it is random. no mirror image of movement, but chaos.

the winner will be the one better at prediction, action, and reaction to the stimuli.

it is best not to pre-plan what you think you will do, as in the fight you should go with the flow and do whatever needs to be done based on what is presented.

training is great to give you the body mechanics of fight movement, but kata and sparring only give you the tools for the style you train in, and is ordered. street fighters are good because they constantly fight chaos and disorder.

being able to adapt outside your comfort zone is a key for success.

We are different becasue we train. This may lead to different thought patterns and behavior.
No, never rely on one technique to finish a fight. Rarely is that the case. Usually a combo ends things.
Real fights are dirty, unfair, sloppy, ugly, dangerous and brief.

I notice there are 3 main personalities that I see in martial artists. Arrogence, being more comfortable, or being that quiet type of martial artist. Those are the 3 I see most of coarse these are very broad catagories

We are all very different. Thats what makes us unique.
Nothing to do with better as far as the person this is a martial arts forum.
With this forum we can share our principles to add to someone's exisiting psychology. But a sense of order must always prevail as martial arts bring in some wild people.
The worse offense I feel in Martial Arts are the ones that bring Shame to martial artists by creating false systems with no proven battle skills behind them. No Trainers or Teachers of any real credentials but alot of so called knowledge. And then you see that nice gullable guy, who swallows it all. And blam that is when the one punch knock out comes. Some guy pummels him.
You must have been in fights to talk about what happens in them.
You must be able to take punishment not just give it, to many artists have never been clocked and do not no what to expect.
Yet teach it as if they do.
You must be a well rounded fighter to be effective as martial artists today. That includes ground and stand up skills.
And try to do it all with some dignity as it is suppose to be martial arts not cat fights,.
The one punch knock out happens, but never count on anything or judge an opponent foolishly. Be prepared for having to take and give punishment. Martial arts combat are based in the ability to give and take the stimulus of pain. There are many ways to achieve this.
Street fighters have exactly above as their benefit, they have been in fights - but that's it. After it is refined it is called a martial art. There is no teachable value of worth to others, till it is refined.
What makes martial arts so unique is that the non fighters can become one or learn to fend from with martial arts as they are developed skills over a period of time and combat tested that can be shared as a knowledge/skill and some are so effective women and children can use them as an effective means of defense.
Now imagine a spoof system being taught to them, they are your Victims. That is the shame of today, alot of unproven systems out there, alot of people carrying a fools game but with no clue till they need it. What a shame.
I wonder how many artists here have ever been in a fight?
Go to the web, look up girl fights.
You will be amazed at the brutality of people.
To train in martial arts only has value if your training in a real sense. And that has little to do with kindness or words of wisdom.
Is it arrogance to spot as they say in Dry Walling, scalpers?
That is those who are not sincere?
Look up Bullshido.com
go to videos
look at the many kind martial artists being brutalized.
An example is channel 9 reporting on a "Master" using Dimak skills against a MMA artist. He got tore up pretty bad, the MMA guy had no mercy. It hurts to be beat down.
the point here is that the day of the kind grasshopper is gone.
There are many brutal people out there with skills that will hurt you. They have no idea of the honor code you are being taught.
That is they are being taught to fight, really fight.
If you do not train for the real, don't count on it.
Bullshido.com look for yourself
And I will breathe now

Yes. Martial Artists are different & based on the questions you ask, I think you qualify. We are more aware of our suroundings & more in control of our emotions. We can remain calm in stressful situations. We also are heirs to the Medeival concept of "noblesse oblige". Those who can have an obligation to protect those who can't.
