Check out a pet supply store. They have tons of products for dry skin and coat on dogs and cats. My kitty gets really dry, too. I use a leave-in conditioner spray on her. She seems much happier.

This could be a result of a number of things. Your Kitty's health may not be up to par and may need a lil tlc from a vet. It may be that your house is extremely dry in the winter. You can use a humidifier or if you have floor vent just place small bowl of water on the vents and that can be used as a humidifier also. Yes the kitty probably will drink from it and that's ok. Also buy a cat brush and use it! If that gets rid of most of the flakes then just bathe him and continue to use the brush at least once a week. Also to give your kitty a lil fresh air during the cold months if you open the window wide enough to allow the cat to fit they will rest there for a moment and usually smell the air. Trust me they will not stay long enough to get cold and then you can close back up. I do that for my cats any time I think they need fresh air. If all the windows are sealed up try the front door and open the screen. I believe they need fresh air just like we do and I think that is why they still try to get out even if it is freezing outside.

Sounds like what we had at the pet store. We gave our cats a bit of cooking oil every other day. We'd put it on their food or just let them lick it out of the spoon.
Also, a good quality food will help the situation.
There are also some OTC items at pet stores that are designed for this problem if you don't mind spending a bit of money on the situation.

Vaseline works great on dry kitty paws. Also, if you put flaxseed oil in their food (just a tiny bit), it will help the dry skin and give them soft and shiny fur.

A simple solution may be to get an air humidifer to help eliminate dry winter air. This worked for me, and I don't zap my poor cat anymore.

this can be a food issue, yes that can happen in winter only because they use nutrients differently in the winter!
You may need a humidifier.
There are vitamans at health food stores.
Make sure the water pan is always full!
brushing or combing may help. that will stimulate nature oils in the skin.
consult a holistic vet!

One of mine also has dry, flaky skin. The vet said it's because she is overweight. I have to take her to a Groomer as she can't groom herself properly and she is bathed in aloe vera shampoo - she is fine for a god while and it goes flaky again. TMy vet told me to try her on oily fish - tuna is a good one. That should help. Trouble is, my cat doesn't like it!
