Essential ingredients for wine:
1. A fruit or vegetable that serves as 'food' for the yeast and flavoring
2. Sugar (not always necessary when using naturally sweet fruit like grapes)
3. Yeast
4. Time and Maintenance.

I learned wine-making after someone gave me ca. 400 lbs of windfall apples. Everything I needed to know was available on this website: http://www.eckraus.com/
They also sell essential equipment you need: fermentation containers, potential alcohol measuring devices (hydrometers), bottles, labels, stoppers, you name it.
I made about 15 Gallons of apple wine that kicked rear!

Contact your local wine supply shop and ask for the name of a local home wine maker. There are books available also.

It covers topics as varied as yeast and microbacterial action in fermentation to wine tasting and marketing.

You can learn Enology in universities. UC Davis is one example http://wineserver.ucdavis.edu/

my dad is a wine connesouir and i bought him a Make-your-own-wine kit from wal mart last year, and it only cost me about 20 bucks :) this could be a good stepping stone if you're looking to do this professionally, or maybe a good alternative if it's just for recreation!
