If I had something to cut my foot off with, I would have something to hunt with. If I'm on an island, that means there's water and animal life, and at the least fish. So no, I wouldn't cut off my foot, unless my brain was already fried by the heat. Dying from an infection wouldn't be much better than dying from starvation would it?
