My cat is a lap cat. She will sit on my lap for a while, but also likes her alone time. It seems that she chooses to pay the most attention to me when I am in the middle of doing something. For example, I am typing on my laptop right now and she is sitting half on me, half on my computer. If I am doing paperwork, she is right there. If I move her, she comes back. Do you think she feels jealous that I am not devoting 100% attention to her?

Ah---yeah---it's a "cat thing". And, just for "kicks" check this one out---go to some web-site where you're going to be doing some reading for a little bit---your cat KNOWS exactly where your eyes are focused and will lay down (or at least obstruct your view) of what you're trying to read! I do NOT read the newspaper by laying it on the table anymore (I hold it in my lap and read in bits & pieces) because I have a pure white, long-haired Turkish Angora who would spread out all the way across the newspaper, roll around, pull some antics---for distraction purposes, and as you might imagine----white cat + newspaper print = gray cat and time for the groomer. It is strictly for the attention, and the VERY THOUGHT that you are focused on "anything" but her won't be tolerated! ENJOY! lol

This activity is typical of a cat. If you are doing something they have to be right in the middle of it, even if they have to go out of their way to do it. Cats love attention and will let you know when they want it. My cats are always sitting in my lap when I am reading or doing something on the computer. Sometimes I swear my cats give me looks when they curl up in my lap that says "How dare you read your book without me!"

I have an 8 yr old female Himalyan. She also does this, but I trained her of when it is okay to do it - with treats. I tried many different types of cat treats, found the one she couldn't live with out, then trained her on how I wanted her to behave with the treats. It was actaully easier than training a dog I think. She doesn't jump on counters, she only claws her claw post and has never scratched any furniture (so I didn't have to declaw her thank goodness), never tries to run outside, and I brush her for 10 minutes every night. So, I make sure she has enough attention "just for her" different times throughout the day and she doesn't bother me when I am busy. She remained extremely lovable too! Cats CAN be trained:)

I have a 9 month old kitten and he is the same way. Because he is young I'm training him that their are appropriate times for lovins and some times just aren't appropriate. I talk to him and he now knows when he can be with me, and it's most of the time.
I think cats like this can become very spoiled if we give in to their every whim. They need to learn some house rules and will respect us for it.
Yes, your cat is jealous. Try talking to her and getting her used to the words "down or go" Also, pointing a finger at her while saying "down" works great. And if he does mind I praise him by saying, "good boy" and give him a quick pet. It will take time, but it has proven to work with my kitten.
Even if your cat is older than mine I believe they can learn, but may take a little longer.

Cats are sometimes very jealous; if yours chooses to love on you when you're busy, it's probably a sign of this. Just pet her a little and go back to what you were doing.

maybe all you need to do is play with her. He needs discipline too so play with him and then let him do something by himself . Buy him a little mouse toy its really help.
Experienced this
