Okay..
A cat, is a cat, is a cat, right?
Well, the special things that make a cat ALWAYS a cat is the spirit.
And it goes from there...
An Oak Tree is an Oak Tree Is an Oak Tree.
It will always be an Oak Tree...
And some believe that over years and when environments change, we adapt to our surroundings, therefore changing the characteristics of the being and its continuous soul.
Agree? Or Disagree?

I believe that the soul is the essence of pure consciousness and we the bearers of this consciousness just as a lamp, running off the energy of electricity, we run off the essence of the original Source of All consciousness.
I believe that our entire function, basic drive, placed in with the biological inclinations to evolve a full consciousness of the All, that All 'are' sleeping incantations of the One True Source, which is above, though inspires through an inward journey, the connection to the All.

I don't see that this defines a soul or spirit.
The body of a cat has a certain structure , but what animates a cat is not a fixed structure. Different cats have different individual personalities. There are differences that cannot be explained simply through genetics. Same with people.
What you have correctly observed is that function monitors structure. Physical characteristics of life forms changing or adapting inorder to survive or persist. Also life forms changing their environments towards survival ( or not).
Soul is not material, not matter, energy , space or time (or genes)..
You have to isolate what is doing the monitoring. what is doing the animating, what is causing the changes. In otherwords
There is an interaction taking place, but there are 2 universes interacting: The spiritual universe (soul) and the material universe. This is a cause and effect relationship.
define the exact properties of this spiritual universe and you will have defined soul.

Hmm...
I agree that the spirit of something is, in a way, the living 'blueprint'. To me, the soul is the mind which conceived the blueprint, and also, the soul is the changing environment in which the spirit evolves.
The examples you're using are found in physical reality, and since physical reality and its inhabitants mirror the soul and its inhabitants
(spirit), the same rule applies.
"As above, so below"
If you're suggesting that some part of being is beyond change, then I disagree.
If I have missed the point, then please,
teach me, young and wise one.

Needless to say that Soul is an abstract thing because it does not have physical characteristics. So do not mix any physical thing, be it a cat or a Caterpillar, with Soul.
Think of the plants and animals you see as temporary dwellings of Soul, much like your body dons your garment. Without these physical bodies, Soul would not exist here in the physical world as we know it. Nevertheless, all you can see or detect with your physical senses, is the body that houses the Soul, not Soul Itself.

Of course I disagree a soul has nothing to do with evolution change. What the Hell do you mean a Cat is a cat is a cat, The individual animal doesn't change the change comes in it offspring. It is able to better survive in its new environment because of some genetic change that allows it to better survive its new environment. Because its survival rate is greater it is allowed to pass on this genetic change. Its called survival of the fittest.

no, the special thing that makes a cat a cat is a set of genes that are like a 'cat-recipe' (I'm doing genes a severe disfavor here by simplification).
And yes, environments change, and the competing sets of genes will mix and mix in interesting ways as a way to survive and reproduce in that often hostile environment.

I actually agree....to a certain extent.
While I don't believe in a "soul" (literal), I do find it to be true that over the course of our lives, some people really do develop through experience. I guess you wouldn't really call it a soul, but for conversational purposes that word will do.

No of course we don't agree.
Prove souls exist before we talk about what they are.
How would you feel if I asked you lots of questions about things which have zero basis in reality?
Most religious people don't think trees have souls anyway.

The soul is that non-material aspect of our being that is the seat of all our identity, thoughts, perception, awareness-the inner us, if you will. It is that part of us that is inexorably and eternally linked to the condition of being linked with God i.e., we are eternal because God is eternal and our kind was created in His image. Christ said it is the most valuable possession we have. Kind of makes the whole body of psychology rather useless, eh?
