Remington's ceramic ones aren't too much, don't get GHDs as these are only needed for very thick hair and if you don't have thick hair your hair will FRY!
I have Morphy Richards and I have never had any problems with them. They also have two heat settings depending on how difficult your hair is to straighten.
Remember daily straightening is not good for your hair, and always use a spray or cream to protect your hair from the heat. Otherwise you will end up with no hair as it will be so damaged it will fall out - no joke, it happened to Christina Aguilera!
Good luck styling!

I have a Rusk straightener and it works great! I have thick/wavy/bumpy hair. My hair has alot of body and it only take me 15 minutes to completly straighten mine. I use products from Aquage to make my hair shiny and smooth too. Try straightening your hair the night before and then just touch it up in the morning. That's what I do and in the morning it takes like 5 minuetes to get out any un-wanted bumps! Rusk heats up really fast and works well. I have had mine over a year and it still works as great as the first time I used it. Do not get Revlon... they stink.

Obviously GHDs are fabulous, but as a cheaper and nearly-as-fab option, try Remington x2 protection straighteners.
They're under 40 quid and heat up really fast, well under a minute, and that's for the top temperature (which is adjustable).
Like GHDs, these can also curl and flick your hair, but use the highest temperature for that.
They come with a nice heat-proof bag too.
Hope that helped and good luck! :]

GHD's GHD's and GHD's. Brilliant! easy to use! really quick! versatile (will not only straighten your hair to perfection but also curls in lots of curl styles and flicks)!, Leave your hair beautifully soft and shiny! This baby is one thing e.v.e.r.y. beauty conscious girl (and boy) should have!

I'm going with the crowd. GHDs are worth the investment. But if you're strapped for cash I had my Babyliss for 3 yrs, I stole my roomates babyliss's for 4 months too and I loved them both. Happy shopping!

I have very kinky, curly hair. The only straightener that works for me is the Maxiglide. I have 3 other expensive irons, and none of them work as good as the Maxiglide. I ordered mine off of TV 2 years ago, but you can get them at Ulta also (ulta.com).

I know what you are looking for, my hair is difficult to straighten too! It takes me like 2 hours to get it completely straight, you need the maxi glide, it is expensive but it does miracles to your hair, it straightens every strand of hair so that its not frizzy or poofy, if u wanna know more about it then you can visit the website www.hairstraightening.net/maxiglide-hair-straighteners.html or go to google and type in maxi glide
