Please don't buy a cat from a breeder or a pet store who buy from breeders. People are beginning to understand the horrors of "puppymills" where breeder dogs are kept in small filthy cages and bred over and over without any chance to play or have the chance to interact with people. There are similiar places that breed cats called "catteries". - Now, I will admit, not all dog or cat breeders are bad, but................
There are SO many cats and kittens abandoned and in need of a loving home. Humane societies are a good place to look. PetSmart and PetCo have cats available for adoption from humane societies at many of their stores. You asked specifically for a place in New York. Go to the website for North Shore Animal League - it's a no-kill shelter in New York. They are a fabulous organization. They heal, keep and nuture the helpless little ones who others have "thrown away" or for some reason can no longer care for.
Good luck in your search. I do hope you will opt for a shelter or rescue cat instead of one from a breeder. Like dogs, cats of mixed "pedigree" usually have better personalities than pure breeds.

look around on the internet for local animal shelters in NY... I'm sure there are lots there. That is always the best place to get a pet.

Please don't buy a kitten from a pet store or breeder. There are *so* many that need home. I recommend that you find a shelter and adopt 2 kittens. 2 are better than one for cats, as they keep each other company and makes it less likely that they destroy things out of boredom.

Please spay or neuter your cats too.

Well, you're going to have a hard time finding a cat with "about 2 mouth".

go to petfinder.com. Type in your zip code and it will give you a list of local shelters that you can adopt from. It will show pictures of available cats too.
