If so how long does the food in the wrap have to be microwaved to be unhealthy? Also, if possible, please provide research that proves that wrapping food in plastic wrap is unhealthy.

Imagine if you will, for a second, that anything you heat causes atoms to move faster and faster and, in most cases.. those atoms literally jump out of sequence and 'float away' since their density is so low...

This is called vapor or an odor that we smell when things are heated.

THing is.. whatever you're heating the food in.. does the same thing. Some materials are more resiliant and resistant to being heated (such as ceramic which undergoes a firing process to make it harder to break down and heat in a microwave) or glass.

But plastic heats up just like what you're cooking albeit not from the waves themselves, but from the conduction of heat from the item being heated (in most cases).. and those atoms that go shooting off.. well, they go right into your food. ALong with practically melting into it (especially if the container becomes soft and more malleable during the heating process) and most of the time fumes from being heated or burned (for just about any synthetic) are dangerous if not toxic.

So the real bottom line is.. would you want to eat that plastic?

I know I wouldn't.

Stick with stoneware, glass, ceramics and 'microwave safe' plastics if you can.

Not saying you'll die from it.. but over time I'm sure your body will reject it.

The Prince of Darkness™ lined your bathroom with clean plastic wrap through fact he had some beyond prevalent time on his arms after gluing pennies to sidewalks. Plus a roll of saran wrap. you recognize what they are saying, "idle arms are the devils playthings."

The hazard is apparently minimal. However, I try to heat food in glass containers.
