i called my local bird store and they said to lower all the perches in his cage and if he doesn't get better in 2 days bring him in for a look he is eating properly and drinks his water it is from bumping into something not from ramdomness so it is not a infection he can walk with a little limp

I agree with all the responses to take him to and avian vet ( http://www.aav.org/vet-lookup/ ). As you already know, birds will hide pain, emotion, and illness, so even if he's putting more weight on it now, it could still be bothering him. For all you know, he could have cut his little foot on something and it's getting infected or it could be bruised and very painful. I'm sure the last thing you'd want is to see or know your baby cockatiel is in pain. Especially in the case of infection, many horrible viruses can settle in and take over his foot, limbs, or even blood stream. I can't see your bird or evaluate exactly by my knowledge, but from your description, these are the possibilities I'm giving.

Even if he is putting more weight on it, the discolouration worries me a bit. Cockatiel skin is generally a gray to gray-beige tone, even babies. Maybe his foot is getting poor circulation or there is a clot within his leg or foot. A vet would know best what's wrong, what to do, and can tell you exactly what's going on. It's not worth the risk of just leaving him at home like this, whether you think he's looking better or not. (And if it happens again, the vet can advise you of what's actually happening and what you can do about it.)

Good luck.

the same thing happend to my parakeet. We called the vet and they told us that there was probably a small tumor in one of his veins. this would then cut the circulation off of the foot. She is still having that problem. It can be life threatening. It is either that or it broke a toe and it isn't healing. there toes are really small so it is difficult for them to heal. I don't even know which one of those it is with my bird. hope this helped. u should call this pet emergency #. They give u a nerse and u tell them the symptions and they help u out.
it might be long distance, but they are really helpfull.

You should take him to the vet because something serious could be going on.

Question, is he sort of puffy and tucking his foot up in to his feathers? (so you can't even see it) That means he's relaxed and maybe about to go to sleep.

Does he walk on it normally? Try having him stand on your finger and see if he wraps his toes around it like normal.

take him to the vet. he could have caught his foot on something and possibly broke a bone or burst a blood vessle. birds don't handle either of those very well.

yep, you should take him to an avian (bird) vet. my cocktail lost his foot because we thought it was just bruised. we later found out the band around his leg had broken his leg, he never showed any signs of being in that much pain, emotional or physical!

He just bruised his foot. As long as it isnt bleeding there isnt anything you need to do. He should be back walking normal in a few days. Just keep an eye on him.

you really don't need to take him. As long as he's eating/drinking properly and has normal looking doo doo. Try to keep him in a confined space to keep him from using that foot.
