i haven't know this girl long but we decided to go out tonight and hang out. She is different than most everyone else- i know she would probably laugh in my face if i said 'lets go bowling!' (not that there is anything wrong with bowling but i know she would not enjoy that at all).
So i guess im asking where are some good places to go and hang out, usually i just go to their houses or have them come over but that can get repetative so...any ideas?

If it were me, I would begin the evening with dinner at a nice restaurant (not anything with a drive thru) , then let her decide what you do next....that should show her that you're really interested in her and what she thinks and likes. You can bring up the topic over dinner. An easy question....What do you like to do for fun?

You sound like a nice person! I always found that the important thing at this stage in dating was to be able to try/do interesting things BUT still be able to talk. Dinner gets old and movies and the like do not allow for "getting to know you" time.

Sometimes it is less what you do than the kind of mixed ambience I just described in the prior paragraph.

Why not go online or get out the local paper and look for events where you CAN kind of hang out and walk around but still talk and get to know each other?

Here are some sample ideas:

- a farmers market
- an art gallery
- a botanical garden
- a nursery with lots of trees and plants
- a record store
- a natural science museum
- any museum really
- people watching places (busy mall?)
- a really cool non-franchise coffeehouse!
- if you have one nearby, an airport - don't laugh! you can watch planes take off, you can sit and have a beer, you can get a corner booth and make jokes about the people watching possibilities
- an Apple store
- a local sports event (kids soccer, beach volleyball)
- a walk on Muscle Beach
- an outdoro flea market
- a swap meet
- a factory tour (think chocolate!)
- a jewlery mart with funky stuff
- an antique row kind of area!
- a large used bookstore
- a large used record store
- a sci fi event or other geeky kind of event
- a trade show IF the stuff is of interst - think exotic cats or maybe ski demos
- a planetarium
- a raggae club when the band is NOT on stage
- a fancy ice cream parlor that doesn't mind if you hang out

See, bowling is okay but it seems kind of performance oriented and you really don't know if she will like it.

But if it is something where you can walk around then the fun is in doing it TOGETHER.

Have fun!

Well first of all DON"T go to the movies. Girls want to talk on the first date, get to know you. So with that out, don't take a walk either. You should do something that lets you make eye contact. Dinner is a good thing as long there is something else along with it. If you take her to dinner, play it safe. Don't take her to a really fancy or different place. You don't know all her likes and dislikes yet. Italian food is something that everyone can enjoy. If you can, try to find a pool hall. Playing pool is good because it promotes casual conversation and physical contact. If she does come to your place, make them dinner. It's affectionate and makes you look good. Don't try to cook anything tricky. Stick to simple stuff and it'll be great. The most important thing to do is get to know her and let her get to know you!

It all depends on your settings what do you have locally? Like I would love it if a guy took me to his favorite restaurant and showed me around like we were tourists, granted bowling isn't very first date material... but suggest a dive bar or a local diner or a lake to sit and chat... picnic basket, flowers, the whole nine! Good Luck!

mmm, you should make a fancy dinner at home for her.
get semi dressed up, tell her to wear something somewhat dressy, and enjoy a nice meal prepared by you :)
