Several years ago WWF (wrestling) used Austin 3:16 to publicize one of their Pay Per Veiw events. There is no Austin in the bible, it was named after a wrestler. I'm not sure why the 3:16 (maybe a date?), but I know that's how it started

I hold up a John 3:7 sign- it gives people something to think about and sometimes people will ask what does that mean, and I'll tell them the gospel.

Being a sports fans is not the reason for seeing this sign at events. The reason you see this is to remind us of the most powerful statement in the Bible. It reminds us that God loves us and that He sent His son Jesus to save us....see for yourself! Here is the scripture that they refer to:
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[a] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
