First, get medicine for ticks and fleas from your vet (most likely he/she will recommend from Advantage - I think it's called Advantix) and NOT from the local store(Hartz). Give your dog a good tick and flea shampoo bath. As soon as you're done with the shampoo and towel drying, apply the medicine as per the instructions. That will help your dog.

As for your house, you will most likely need an exterminator. Keep in mind that ticks can hop onto you as well and can cause Lyme's disease. You may get lucky in that the only ticks present in your home were on your doog. But with 7 on your dog, I'd recommend an exterminator.

Your dog isn't getting these from inside. So be sure to spray any bushes in your area too. This is where the ticks and fleas are coming from. Limit your dog's interaction with bushes. This still won't prevent him from getting ticks or fleas, but with you walking him on a leash, it will prevent him from rubbing up and down or through areas where ticks and fleas are present.

Lastly, with 7 ticks (maybe more? fleas??), your dog may be dealing with some slight anemia. Watch for lethargy (especially if the ticks were swollen with blood). Did you remove them properly? I know that's tough - I've often just yanked ticks off too, and was lucky. But doing this can rip their heads off under the dog's skin! So remove with tweezers (or have a vet do this). If your dog is lethargic at all, give him some beef (rich in iron).

I hope this helps. And do watch where your dog goes. My former dog (who passed away last year) would get ticks here and there and had fleas once (when he spent more time outside). The more your dog is inside, the less likely he'll get these parasites.

There is no such thing as 'once and for all'. If you live in an tick invested area you will have to treat the yard as you treat the dog. Dips for the dog once a month and spray your yard every two weeks for 6 weeks to kill off the ticks as they hatch. You are spraying every two weeks cause of the life cycle of the tick.

One single female tick can live for 6 months without food, but when she swells and lays her eggs she produces hundreds at a time.

When I was grooming my rule of thumb was if I found more than 5 or 6 ticks on a dog it automatically got dipped..

Don't think that after you spray the yard every two weeks that other ticks won't make their way into your yard.

Did you know that ticks are drawn to a dog by the carbon monoxide that a dog breaths out?

If you have found seven believe theere are more. Some are so small that they look like dirt called seed ticks. First of all contact your vet. He may need to be dipped and there is K-9 Advantix which I reccommend. It kills every type of tick plus fleas and has a birth control for fleas and ticks . then I would treat my yard. go to the feed store or walmart and for that matter and get an insecticide. Read the label and make sure it says fleas and ticks. Treat your yard. I f you are worried about your house get a insecticide bomb for the house. One day go on a all day trip and set it off. By the time you get back the film should clear and everything be dead.

There is no way to get rid of ticks forever but I would recommend flee and tick drops. You can buy them from your vet or you can also get them at a store such as Walmart or Target. The drops should be put on every 3-4 months. Ticks and flees start to come out with the warmer weather, unfortunately. The drops get on the dogs skin and so when the ticks bite the animal, it gets the poison in their (the tick's) system and they die.

Ps. I would NOT recommend getting the tick and flee collars as they only tend to work around the collar area. Good Luck!

The best thing to do is to check your dog over VERY thoroughly and make sure there are no more ticks on him. Pull off any that you find with tweezers, and kill them. Get some Frontline or other type of repellent from your vet. The stuff you can buy at Walmart just doesn't work very well. I doubt you have ticks in your house, they like to stay on their host. You'll need to spray your yard with something to kill the ticks out there, or you will continue to have a problem. I use the granules - this I do buy at walmart in the garden section.

Bathe him and remove all the ticks, then spray him with frontline, then give him an ampoule of Advantix and then a Scalibor collar. Also, get him tested for ehrlichia, and if he tests positive he needs medication, but he'll get well. He can get that disease from ticks. Your house and you are OK, ticks go on the dogs, they are not like fleas. But keep the house very clean anyway (vacuum, wash the floors, etc).

get top quality flea and tick drops (advantix works great though very expensive). for the yard.. (most ANYTHING you use can be toxic to animals) you could try seven dust. We have used this in the past with good results but please buy cheap paper dust masks to wear when putting down in your yard.get a pack of knee high nylons (pantyhose) and fill stocking with the dust...walk around the yard tapping the stocking to release the dust till you get a light coating all over your yard. If your dog is NOT a chewer (chewing itself often) you can even use it on the dog's fur.
most sprays you can buy for your yard are seriously toxic. seven dust is, but not AS harmful to the pet. if unsure, best to call a vet and get thier recommendations as to what to use in the yard.

Have your dog professionally bathed and dipped in a flea and tick solution. Then purchase Advantix. Spray your home with Zodiac aerosol. One can should do most of your home. Two at the most.

I am little confused. Why don't you just take the ticks off of your dog? Take her to the vet, get her spayed, ask about tick medication. As for the tick infestation in your home..I guess call an exterminator?
