You know who I mean.. the (usually ancient) drivers that totally refuse to drive over 35-40 mph even on a safe wide,main road.
They are totally oblivious to the mile-long 'snake' of tailbacked traffic that forms behind them.They are the ones that will stick behind a tractor doing 20mph rather than overtake,causing others to overtake more than one vehicle to get past(OK if you've got a Porsche or Subaru but more dangerous for slower vehicles).
If anyone does overtake them they don't like it and flash their lights.
The 35-40 speed is even adhered to even through a 30mph limit.
Am I the only one that these 'accident causers' gets on their nerves?

Steve m ..Don't be obtuse..I don't mean overtaking on a blind bend or anywhere dangerous..they won't even overtake on a long stretch of clear road.Oh,and if you're implying I'm a young driver..I'm over 50 !!

goddammm yes ! especially when they don't adjust their speed then end up speeding through 30 zones as you said. Man... But have you noticed, they have amazing prowess when pulling out on you ? they'll sit, watching you coming from 500 yards away, not traffic anywhere, 400 yards, 300 so on then exactly 7mm before you get to them, they nail it off the limiter, dump the clutch, pull out, and jam it into fifth at 19mph. Scum.

Im my area it's trucks...
Cement trucks, which for some reason are allowed to drive 25 miles per hour through the hillsides on a one lane road.... where passing is not allowed, where there are no turnouts, and where the speed limit is 50!
It's not like they have to take this mountainous road either. There's a perfectly good set of freeways which they could take. If you drive the speed limit, that would add an hour's time to the drive... but I guess if they took that route they wouldn't be able to get to their job site until the next day, because on the freeway, the speed limit's 65, and they'd only be able to drive 25.
I'm also a little miffed at certain other trucks which also drive at 25 mph...
Thes trucks generally have some sort of trailer on back, filled with lawnmowers, blowers, tree branches, etc. They don't bother me quite as much, since they only seem to drive in places where the speed limit is 35, but it really pisses me off that they always use the wrong turn signal... and edge over to the opposite side of the lane from where they are turning... and come to a complete stop before turning, unless there's a stop sign, in which case they just keep right on moving with their turn.

I know exactly what you mean and they are a definite nuisance on the road. We even have names for them - 'Five and a halves' are the drivers that go a 5mph above half the speed limit, 'OSD's' are One Speed Drivers - 35 to 40mph whatever the speed limit, 'Victors' (after the character Victor Meldrew), also called 'Cloth Heads', are the elderly gentlemen with flat caps that are oblivious to everyone else on the road, 'DOGs' are Doddering Old Gits and 'AWH' is a general term for bad drivers,short for Accident Waiting to Happen.
Spatial awareness declines with age and many elederly drivers are genuinely unable to judge speeds, distances etc. It's not unusual for an elderly driver to pull out dangerously close to another vehicle - not because they haven't seen the other vehicle but because they can't judge the speed it's going or the distance it is away.
Also, many elderly drivers have been driving now for 40, 50, 60 years. Driving conditions have changed dramatically, there's now far more traffic and it's in much more of a hurry and unfortunately many elderly people aren't suited to driving in such conditions. It doesn't help them or anyone else that so many drivers are impatient.
There's also a feeling amongst almost all drivers that the speed they are travelling is the correct speed and everyone else is wrong. The driver doing 40mph considers everyone else to be going too fast and the driver doing 80mph considers others to be going too slow.

If you're talking about people who drive well under the speed limit then I agree with you because they are soooo dangerous. I joined the motorway yesterday and there was a guy driving at 60 mph in the middle lane! I tried to be a good citizen and not undertake him (difficult at this speed) but everytime I slowed to try and get behind him so I could overtake him properly, he slowed down even more. In the end I couldn't help but pass him as he'd slowed down to 55mph! Then when I indicated to pull out to overtake the car in front he slammed his foot on the accelerator and nearly drove into me!!! He then spent the next few miles driving alongside me trying to intimidate me in his - yup you've got it - peoplecarrier rather than concentrating on the road!
People like that shouldn't be allowed on the road! I find that they're so busy trying to make a point that they're not focussed enough on the road and what's going on around them. Bearing in mind you can fail your driving test for being too low under the limit, surely it should be an offence.

When I was taught to drive, it was instilled in me to "keep up with the traffic." I still do, more than 30 years later. Not all "ancients" are pootlers!!!
Being seriously under the speed limit is in many ways just as dangerous as being over it. Not so spectacular perhaps, but frustration can cause many a mishap or an unwise reaction.

I recently got stuck behind an idiot doing 35 on a perfectly straight, long road with a 60 limit. OK, it was getting dark, but the road was straight and clear.
Then we got into a village with a 30 limit - and with road lights - and he SPEEDED UP to 40!

These clowns will usualy pull out in front of a caravan outfit "cos they dont want to get stuck behind it" then they crawl along at 30 - 40 mph. The people behind the caravan then start getting annoyed as they think its the caravan holding them up and so they try to get past..............

hi Rolyn i did no longer understand i replaced into stated as a "pootler". I tension a Morris Minor motor vehicle and that i continuously tension in the fee shrink. that's what risk-free drivers do and due to this there are speed limits on roads. i'm retired now so i do no longer tension in rush hours and that i do no longer overtake tractors on slender lanes. i visit proceed to tension in the fee limits and advise you inspect your stress tiers.

No, don't bother me in the slightest. I slip past with the greatest of ease on my bike, laughing at the expressions of the frustrated car drivers stuck behind in the queue. Marvellous feeling, try it some time!

Oooh I hate that. I especially hate it when they slowly pull out in front of me (they couldn't wait for me to go first because they are in a big hurry I suppose) then they want to drive 20 mph. I yell obscenities out the window. My 5 year old daughter has started yelling "YOU EEDIOT" because of this. lol
