I want to make a gif image for my myspace. Kind of like the AFI myspace. www.myspace.com/afi. Not like an animation but like a slideshow.

You have many options, from flash to make "frame by frame" animation, it depends on what you want to do or need.
You can do this (what you want) taking the pictures, formatting them the same way in photoshop or the GIMP or any other graphic application and then using flash or the GIMP plug-in to make animated gifs.
On flash just put each picture on a frame and then export your movie to gif.
On the GIMP put each picture on a layer and then use the plug-in to export it as an animated gif.

GIF files can't be used for that, you have to create .gif files in a painting program like GIMP. Then you use a flash program like
Flash MX to do it.
