Blood borne pathogens are transferred through exchange in body fluid (does not have to be blood to blood). If you touch someones blood and it enters a cut, your eyes, mouth, or through sex you can get a blood borne pathogen. Sickness' that you can get are HIV, Hepatitis B or C, Syphilis. There are always risks when dealing with other people's blood, that's why in real life you see health workers and emergency workers (firefighters, paramedics/EMT, police) wear medical gloves anytime they are treating or trying to save someones life. If blood just gets on your skin that's not where the risk is, the risk is if by being on your skin it is able to find a way into your body and into your blood stream. If you get someones blood on your skin the best treatment is to clean the area well with soap and water, make sure you don't have any cuts or openings in the skin in the area, if you do or if you are still concerned go to your doctor explain what happened and ask to be tested to make sure you don't have anything, it may be a good idea to be tested again a year later.

'Touching someone elses blood is a risk because, there is a chance that you have a small cut that you do not know about or if you don't realize you have blood on you and you wipe your mouth or nose, the blood can get on the mucus membranes and infect you (assuming the person is infected). You could get Hepatitis A, B, C or HIV. Always be cautious when dealing with others body fluids.

Usually, you only get sick if your skin is broken or you otherwise get it inside you.
