There's a guy I met, who appears to be the total package, handsome, excellent personality, great sense of humor, loves his family, works hard, has a bunch of interests/hobbies outside his fantastic career. BUT of course there is the one thing! He's a smoker. To me that indicates he doesn't care enough about himself or his body....not to mention I absolutely hate the smell of smoke on clothes and no matter how many mints, that disgusting ash tray breath! Should I give him a chance and pretend it doesn't bother me?

Be absolutely certain NOT to make any decisions that include "quitting smoking" as a requirement! I am an ex-smoker. I was a smoker for more years than I care to recall. I quit the first time for five years, smoked one (only) and was immediately hooked again! It took 8 years for me to quit again...13 months ago. I want one each and every day. Occasionally I can literally taste a cigarette without even being near one!

The ONLY way this guy will quit - forever - is if he can look into the mirror and say truthfully to himself that he will always want to smoke...but today he wants to quit more. He can't quit for his friends or loved ones - only himself. Drug and alcohol treatment centers will tell you that a nicotine addiction is harder to break than a heroin addiction. I know that too...my mother went to the Betty Ford Center.

If you really like him and you think that the two of you have potential...then give him a chance! Tell him that you don't like smoking and that you would appreciate it if he would not smoke infront of you. And maybe after you two have been together for a while you can get him to quite smoking all together!

Of course. Im sure you do things thats people hate and they are stil your friends. Smoking doesnt effect how a man will treat you. Get a grip. Why take a chance of throwing away love because they smoke? Dont be shallow.Give him a chance.Smoking is a habit that can be defeated. Loser!

Dont ACT like it doesnt bother you, be honest with him. And if he is as interested in you as you are with him... well you might be the person who gets him to quit. Just dont be hard on him because quitting is hard, its an addiction. Be more supportive than bitchy. Good Luck

if youd like the relationship to work out, you could actually end up doing him a favor. Once you know him well talk to him about how you feel and help him quit. If its meant to be things will work out. good luck.

I mean if you know he's worth it to try to change then give him another chance. Then if it works out you'll both work on it. Love is too important to be blocked by some stupid cigarettes. Get Yours!
