Hi, I think the best way to learn a bit of Spanish is talking to people who speak Spanish, if you know somebody who speaks Spanish, tell him/her to teach you a few expression you can use. but if you don't have a friend who speaks Spanish, search on the Internet, there are many sites where you can learn a few things.
here are some examples:
good morning: buenos dias
good afternoon: buenas tardes
good evening(when you go to some body's House at night): buenas noches.
good night: when you are leaving or going to bed: buenas noches.
I want some milk please: quiero leche por favor.
thank you: gracias.
you are welcome: denada/por nada/a la orden
bye bye: adios
see you: nos vemos.

I'm sure you will learn fast, as soon as you start talking to native speakers in Mexico. Mexican people are kind and they can teach you, don't be afraid of speaking and making mistakes, that is the best way to learn.
good luck: buena suerte!!!

well at Barns and Noble there are these tapes called "Instant Immersion Spanish" you should get them. That is what I have and it is really good. (I know that you want to find a social group and that might be hard to find)
