It is only the Catholic church that says this about Mary. Why they do, I have no idea. The bible says that Jesus had brothers and sisters. It also says that Joseph did not "know" his wife until after Jesus was born. In a biblical sense, that means having sexual relations.
I don't have any idea why Catholicism would insist that Mary was a virgin for all her life.

>>If it is said and widely accepted that she had babies after she had Jesus Christ?<<
That is a relatively recent notion held by some Protestants. Some of the respondents were correct in pointing out that the Catholic Church believe Mary was ever-virgin, but incorrect that it is ONLY the Catholic Church. The Orthodox also regard Mary as ever-virgin, as do some Protestants. No one in the Bible is ever identified as being the child of Mary other than Jesus.

These verses in Matthew indicate that Mary was not always a virgin. In Ch 1 Joseph did not have sex with Mary "till" after Jesus was born. And then in Ch 13 the mention of Jesus' brothers and sisters.
1:24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
1:25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.:
13:55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
13:56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

God made jesus. The holy spirit delivered the baby to mary knowing she was the one and not only Catholics believe in it so does the Christian faith.Jesus is basically god in human form. So God made jesus and jesus needed someone to be delivered from. And that person was Mary and she is still a virgin to this day!!!!!!!!!! And Jesus did not have brothers and sister. Cousins on the other hand don't even get me started! By the way esther did u get that name from a movie called one night with the king? I love that movie it's my fave! And you're wrong all the chritians believe that.

She was a virgin in that she had no intercourse with a man to have Jesus but after his birth she had other children in Fact the Bible states in Matt 13:55,56 "Is this not the Carpenters son ? is not his mother called Mary , and his brothers James ,and Joseph and Simon and Judas and his sisters are they not all with us ?...... so not only does the Bible tell us he had bros and sisters but it clearly names them so it is a catholic thing apparently they dont read the Bible much to arrive at their opinion Gorbalizer

She was a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus. After, she conceived and bore children the normal, human way.
You may be getting that from the Catholic faith, they believe that she remained a virgin, but Jesus claims His natural brothers and sisters in the Bible. Some Catholics are not encouraged to read the Bible by the Priest. They are told what the Catholic religion wants them to believe. I have been to a Catholic church on many occasions and was never told, "Open your Bibles and read with me," as my Pastor tells us to do. My Pastor teaches the Bible and encourages us to read it regularly. He used to be Catholic and then he got saved and is now a Pastor for a Southern Baptist Church.

virgin birth: widely-used religious metaphor to describe the awakening of consciousness (enlightenment) of someone. It refers to the person having the experience (Jesus, buddha, etc.) and has absolutely nothing to do with mary, mothers, or a literal virgin birth.
