Congratulations, you're learning a skill that will help you mature.
You know your mother the best, and you need to practice before you get into this request. Now, as you've learned from being a child, whinning is a good technique. But, I chanllenge you to take the more adult way of handling "Conflict". The most important skill is LISTENING to them.
So you Mom comes back and says, " The infection from the piercing could kill you - under no circumstance will this be done". You can Listen to her by asking another question, "Where did you hear this could kill me?" Keep asking questions and don't pout. After pulling information out of your mother, you will need to then think quickly about how to use the information she's concerned with and make her feel safe about your decision (this is done by getting all reasure about this NOW). So instead of whinning, "But MOM", you'll want to say, "I hear that your' concerned about what will happen after the piercing, and I have learned (XXX), now, is there anything else that you have concerns over? Eventually, you'll both come to an understanding, and both will feel good about the decision being made.
Don't freak if this conversation goes over one converstaion. Sometimes people need to hear an argument, and then have time to let the information sink in.

Tell her you're doing great in school and doing your best at home, ask her if theres anything else you can do to help her. I think your letter is a great idea and as a mother of 5, I would appreciate that if it were one of mine. They are all grown now, but I wish on some of the things they did they would have done what you are doing. Explaining the consequences is a great idea to. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

some advice don't look a gifted horse in the mouth. In other words don't make a big thing out of it or else she will cahnge her mind in a hurry. Well because she will think your planning something and she won't liek it but you should just take her word and go with that. ANd if she changes her mind well you can get one later it's not going to kill you if you don't get your belly button pierced.

There is NO way u are gonna be able to persuade her into letting you get that and peircing AND letting her know the consequences of the whole thing.
Try again when u've moved out.

well to start with you need to really think about why you want it...thats the only thing that counts...and you need to know that your mom is going to look at all the bad things that could happen if you got one...so dont overlook them jsut because you want to be like your friends...
it hurts alot when done...
it could get infected if you dont clean it...
and you could have major problems if you dotn get it done by a professional...dont let a friend do it for you
