When i run on the treadmill at about 6mph for a half an hour it says on treadmill that i burned 400 calories but the other websites say i burn around 200-300 calories maybe not even that..which one is true?

OK....the amount of calories you burn is based on two things...the distance you run( and the intensity)...and your weight...if you weight more...you burn more because you are working harder. Does the treadmill allow for you to input your weight? If so it is more accurate...but the truth is, do not get caught up in numbers here...continue to exercise. you burn as many calories as you burn....accept that and keep up the good work.

Neither may be true. How you burn your calories is entirely dependent on your current weight, level of physical fitness, ideal heart rate and your percentage of lean muscle. I doubt you are burning as many as 400 calories - that is about how much I burn after a 45 minute run. Your best bet is to invest in a heart rate monitor which can also keep track of the actual amount of calories you have burned.

are you entering your weight into the treadmil? if not, it assumes you weigh like 160 lbs...thats the default for most. Heavier people burn more calories doing the same thing than lighter people. Instead of just pushing the Quickstart button next time, try doing the Manual program, and it will prompt you to enter your age and weight. this way, it calculates the calories burned accurately.

You would burn 300 calories if you were running outside (roughly 100 calories per mile), so it would be less on a treadmill.

A treadmill helps you move.
