My daughter wants black bras and panties- not the fancy lacy stuff, just plain cotton. But it seems too grown up to me. Any opinions?

I'm 13, too. What's wrong with it? It's not like anyone's going to SEE them! I think its fine.

OMG! At last.....someone who worries about things like I do!
I have a 12 yr old daughter (13 soon) and she asked for black underwear for under a cute black and pink dress she got. I nearly had heart failure.....but didn't let her see. I had to think long and hard about why I had such an issue with black and it is the "sexy" thing but she's only 13 and she hasn't asked for lace panties or bra so really it has nothing to do with being sexy for a 13 year old. I let her have the black underwear.
You sound like a grounded, caring parent with good morals (from your question) and I think your daughter will be a typical 13 yr old.
It is sooooo hard being a parent, just continue to love, worry, and care about her and you can't go wrong with her. Take care xx

I don't think long black fake nails are appropriate for ANYONE to wear, much less a 13-year-old, so NO.

I always matched my girl's underwear to what they were wearing, even when they were really little. They grew up that way so a set of black underwear is just that. It matches what they are wearing with less chance of it showing through their clothing. Sometimes white bras can shine right through a dark top. That is terribly embarrassing for a young teen.

I think it's just a color and no big deal. What if the black cotton had colorful designs on it? They sell Girls Hanes undies in ALL colors- solids and prints. I'm sure she won't be the only 13 yo with black underwear. I cant imagine what you think of red!

I wouldnt mind black cotton under garments for a 13 yr old. (just as long as she doesnt want anything from Victoria Secret) Believe it or not, at 13 she is growing up and now that she is a teenager its gonna go quick!

so your point is......? you need not to worry so much, it is just underwear. Had she been asking for sexy stuff, then worry. if you worry too much about insignificant stuff like the color or her underwear, then you may push her over the edge and she may not trust you when she wants to talk to you about serious stuff. it starts now, even with black plain cotton undies. don't make it big when its just a color.

As long as she's not showing off her underclothes to anyone, wearing the plain cotton underwear should be just fine. And it's not stupid to ask about it -- would that more parents were concerned about their child's appearance, to themselves and to others!

you're obviously a strict sheltering parent. There's nothing wrong with her wearing black underwear mom. White can't go under everything!
Note: not trying to be funny or harsh or anything, but give her the rope to hang herself, don't hang her for you. Sheltering your kids is never good, my parents tried that with us, and we all turned out wild at first, my little sister is the one their catching hell with now. Be more realistic in your thoughts, and don't look at the negative sides of everything, also, if they make black underwear or red underwear, or lime green underwear, who cares, buy it for her. don't worry about what color is on under her clothes, worry about if boys are looking under them. They don't care if underwear is white or "clear". good luck I have about 11 more years until I'll be there with my daughter!

She may just want to have them blend into her clothes more, that's the whole purpose of having colored undies ... I would allow her to get them ... white underwear are just so bold ... and people can see them under the clothes. At 13 she is growing up ... amazing how quick time goes huh?

Black is beautiful, just not on your own 13 yr old daughter. As long as they are not sexy they should be okay. Just keep the boys away from her so they don't get to see what color they are.
