I checked our local library's website for story hour. They had a weekly program all winter long that ends March 2nd. I may take her to the last one, at 9:00a.m.; however, I work until 1:00 the night before so we'll see. I also checked our Health and Wellness Center for play groups. All that they have is sports activities for kids starting at age 5. I'm hoping to find something for kids her age to interact as well as their Mommy's. I'm also looking for low-cost or free ideas preferably in the afternoon after her nap due to my work schedule. Any suggestions?

We don't have a YMCA, zoo, or museum. I live in WI in a town of about 22,000. All that we have here is shopping and restaurants. We lived at the park last spring and summer, and we will again, but I am looking for other ideas.

The playgroup I joined when we moved here helped save my sanity. We were all on a Yahoo group for military wives in the area and those of us with preschool kids made our own group to get the kids (and the moms) together. We're still together 4 years later and have been bringing in other moms since day one.

So I'd say look anywhere you might find moms in your area. Find or start a yahoo group. If you have a myspace account check there. If you're a member of any parenting advice sites, took there. (I know iVillage.com used to have statewide boards for parents when they took over ParentsPlace.)

You might check with your pediatrician's office to see if they sponsor a group or have a place you could put an ad for other moms to join you. Check with your church or local schools. Put an ad at the library.

Hope these help you find something in your area.

Why not check with other moms in your neighborhood and try to start a play group? Or, as the weather gets warmer and people get outside more, go to a local park and try to establish some friendships there and attempt to meet there on a regular basis.

At 19 mos old your child will get excited about anything you are excited about. I wouldn't rush headlong into activities and schedules those will be coming soon enough...before you know it she will be in girlscouts, gymnastics and after school activities. Include her in some of your routine activities. She is old enough to be moving to a schedule that fits your life (instead of us having to conform to them like when they are infants). Teaching her time to play with y ou and time to play herself (in small doses) will help in the long haul. Get to the local park. Drag out a few toys and play on the floor. Make play dough together. Read to her, daily. Its all about exploring at this age, touch, taste, smell---seriously even folding and matching socks has interest for them at this age! If you are concerned that she doesn't have enough interaction with kids her own age, then try MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) it is a nation wide organization that usually meets in churches. There are also babysitting coops and cooperative play places (which means the moms stay and interact with the kids) but I wouldnt stress about it...enjoy your baby girl....twirl, giggle, make whip cream, dress her in bows, cook together, talk a walk, push her on the ride ons she loves....pray with her and for her.... God Bless

cheapest way would be run an add in your newspaper for local mom's who want to start a play group out of their house...you can change whos house you go too....and even meet at parks and resterants....you have a chance to have your kids close to you and still have a good time....your kids will be more comfortable in a home enviroment at that age...i have 3 kids and would never join anything at that age because they are always getting sick and you have to pay for most clubs or anything like that weither or not your at every meeting...this way you have them when you want and can change your plans to meet your and your childs own needs...hope this helps and good luck

Do you go to a church? A lot of churches have a Mommy day. and its normally cheap or free and lets small(under pre-k) mingle and play together while you get to meet other mama's with small children in your area.
Good luck and God Bless

Do you have any YMCA programs out there where you are? They might have playgroups for smaller kids. Most things unfortunately do cost alot of money.
