Yes, I like to do this soooo much. But only in family, in company of veeery close friends or with my sweetheart around, never ever with remoted acquaintances or at official meetings.

At home always! I mean, I live alone, why not? It's purely an etiquette thing and not a hygiene thing, I'll use my finger but I wash my hands before dinner. In public, never, although I do sometimes regret it when the food was very very good. And no I've never accidentally slipped up, it's not like it's become automatic to do it at home that I would ever forget where I was and do it in a restaurant or even when there are others over for dinner.

No, actually I never have and I've never had the desire to. If I want the sauce or whatever is left on the plate after the food is gone, I take my utensil and use that to scoop up what's left. I think licking a plate is bad manners and feel it's gross. Just my 2 cents. ;-)

No, I don't.
My brother did it once as a joke and his wife threw her plate at his head. He got to clean up the pieces after he ducked and it shattered. My whole family just sat in silence. No one has ever thought to lick their plate again - even if it occurred to them to do so. The memory of that plate flying like a Frisbee across the kitchen before it hit and ricocheted into a million pieces stops us all.

When we get a box of the new McDonalds Cinnamon Melts, after we finish eating the melts themselves, my daughter and I fight over who gets to lick the plastic box they come in. The bottom of the box has left-over frosting and cinnamon filling that's cooked crisp and is SO good!
Of course, we only do this when we're at home and nobody who might not understand is around...we preserve at least that much decency.

Licking the plate in public simply implies boorish behavior and a lack of education.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?
In other words, if you lick your plate when no one else is around to see it, does anybody really care?
As long as you have the decency not to do that when you're around others, it's fine!
