The only thing that I am concerned about is my education background. First thing, is I had to redo a year in school because I was in the hospital a lot suffering from migraines which I've gown out of. When I went to military school, I had to leave in the middle of the year due to a incident; wasn’t criminal nor anything I did wrong it was someone did something wrong to me VERY WRONG, I wasn’t kicked out, I left on my own decision. Problem after is the incident destroyed my moral so I didn’t work as hard in school and left 2 schools, even tried to commit suicide. I know it was stupid; the time I got it together I was behind. So I worked for 2 years and than got my GED; I am now working on continuing my education like a criminal justice, weapon training, and hand to hand combat training. I am also paying for myself to go to the academy. I would like to keep my mouth shut about the incident, will this come up as an issue at all or will they be able to find out about it.

I have a clean record, never been arrested, sued no illegal drugs, minor traffic violations, and used alcohol in my own home.

first of all be honest, they know more than you think they do, if you lie to them you are out, period. There will be a psych evaluation done and maybe a personality profile, they can tell a lot by that. Show them how far you have come and that you are a stronger person for what you have been through and you can use your life experiences on the job to benefit your community and the public that you come into contact with. Be honest...did I say that already?

If you have no criminal record, you really shouldn't have to worry about this. Some departments do require some college or a college degree.

Honesty is the best policy. Everyone is entitled to a childhood. If you have been hospitalized for depression, that may be an issue. A lot of departments do psychological testing, and because of the field you're planning to go into, that may come up, and may exclude you.

I wish you well.

I worked in the human resources branch of our police service for a little while and I did check educational history and I did contact certain school information (especially if the person is young and doesn't have much work history). Police officers are under a great deal of stress and therefore only the most stable people should be hired. Don't hide what happened to you in the past. If it is discovered that you have lied or have deliberately hidden somehting it won't go in your favour.
It may be to your advantage to get a psychological exam and prove that TODAY you are okay and in no danger of committing suicide and that TODAY you are fine. Recent references from teachers and/or employers vouching for you would also help.
It takes a strong person to be honest about their past and to get moving forward, good luck.

Lately, due to many unusual incidents, background checks on possible incoming recruits in any law enforcement, peace officer,etc..will involve a thorough background check. It's possible your attempt at suicide will show up,did you have to go to a hospital? By ambulance? When you are being personally interviewed by an investigator you shouldn't hold anything back. Answer the questions truthfully and directly. (If you have gotten this far for this type of employment, this means you are doing well and they probably want to hire you.) Good Luck to you.

Your education may not come up, but the fact that you tried to commit suicide very well may. You have to first pass the MMPI psycological exam and it certainly asks if you have ever tried to commit suicide or ever been treated by a mental health care provider. My answer would mirror what most people here have already said. Be truthful will all your answers and let the chips fall where they may. Good luck

They will do a background check, but, they can't get medical records without your permission. I believe your recent efforts will be more interesting than your past. Military school is different, they may tell when you entered and when you left. Most places do not give out good or bad info anymore, too many lawsuits. It's a privacy issue.

They will simply ask if you have a GED or diploma. I dont beleive they will contact the school. Lots of people have problems when they are teens it shouldnt stop your career plans now.

It won't come up. They'll look at your GED and your higher education. However, none of that is as important as how you do in the police academy.

Don't worry about it, they don't really care how much school you've had. It doesn't take a degree to become a legal criminal and 90% of cops are criminals with a badge.

When I applied they went back to my elementary school, neighbors from childhood to adulthood. If there is something there it will be found. It is best to be honest about it. If you omit it and they find it your gone.
