Different things work for different people. For some people, exercising makes people feel good and happy and helps them not be tempted to assist the bulimia.
Truth is though, a doctor, whether that be a family doctor or psychiatrist, would be the number one top and best thing you could do. There are such big negative connotations and stigmas with both bulimia and psychiatrists, and even just seeing a doctor for anything. Especially if you're younger and would have to tell a parent atleast that you wanted to see a doctor. Truth is though, they're trained to be practical with you, and something like bulimia is a practical illness.
To top it off, I can say that I've had friends who've hidden they're eating/pscyhological problems for years, and finally get so physically ill they're parents admit they've noticed and enroll them in the hospital as a patient and then have to join programs and stuff, which is still better than the alternative.
But psychological problems are just as real problems as cancer or pnuemonia. You wouldn't tell someone with cancer to just try to figure things out on their own, when they could see a trained professional and possibly have even an easy solution.
There are two parts to psychological treatment, the medicine side (you're whole body is governed by chemicals and 'drugs', and they can get out of whack by themselves or due to stress and events) and the mental side (talking to a professional). Both should be taken care of! Get over the stigma and make better health mentally and physically a priority over anything else.

If this is about you, I am truly sorry to hear you are suffering with it. If it is about a friend, it is also tragic.
I know it well, having been in the Modeling Industry much of my life. The competition to be thin was outrageous.
Anyway, it took years to recover. Thankfully I had never been so consumed by it that it ruled my life, as others have experienced. Yet, it was still there, and a constant thought and battle within. The overeating and purging are symptoms of other emotional issues going on-depression, anger, low self esteem, having been abused, etc. These issues manifest themselves with actions like bulimia, or anorexia. The only way to really confront them the right way is to seek qualified therapy from someone that has worked with this before and has had proven success.
Until you combat the underlying issue, everything else will sadly just be a band-aid. It may take years to really get over it. Some other things I did that helped were to surround myself with good friends and people I could trust with my issue. The last thing you need is to feel bad or to have judgement. I also started getting involved in competitive sports where you had to stay strong in order to do them. I read good books about people that had overcome it "Stormie O'Martien was one. I would keep a journal and also attend supportive groups weekly. I slowly found that the underlying issues causing the food problem did eventually get better as my self-esteem and confidence level grew.
Please though, before you do anything, find a qualified Counselor. It may take a few before you find one you really feel comfortable with. Take your time-this is your life, your body, your soul, and ultimately your future. Love yourself and believe that you will get better. Even if you have to stick post-it notes on the toilet reminding you of how wonderful you are-DO NOT LOSE HOPE!
Good luck my friend.

People can tell you all day that you are beautiful, that you are too skinny, that you are getting sick, that you are going to die if you keep this up...and you still think that you look fat...right?
For most people that have this "illness"it is a psychological thing that they are dealing with..they feel something in their lives was something they could not control, and by controlling their weight in such a manner it makes them feel in controlof something..(Find out what made you feel this way.why you started to begin with, were you teased by someone about your figure, did your friends do it and told you too,did you look at a skinny celeb and said I want to look like here..) It could even be that you were abused as a child...things like that dig deep..
Well,I am excited for you that you are trying to take the next step...and you are not living in denial anymore..You are labeling bulimia as a illness..hence the word "recover",and you are realizing that it can destroy your body, mental health, teeth, hair organs and cause death, because you want to prevent it..by stoping..
The first thing that you need to do is to realize that people that are trying to help you are really trying to help..so talk to someone,if you have been hiding it..
Now as far as recovering from Bulimia, just depends as how far this has gone..
How long have you been doing this?
Is it a habit? It is really hard to stop this on your own..it is a eating disorder and it takes alot of dicipline..
I would recommend instead of regreting what you ate,and then trying to throw it up,eat right to begin with.
Talk to a Nutritionist and have him/her give you a eating and excersise plan,so you know the things that you are eating are healthy and you don't need to throw them up..
A healthy diet is eating every 3-4 hours.. (I am not talking about a Golden Coral Buffett, but smaller snacks,a bowl of ceral, an apple,a yogurt, a salad...ect) By doing this you keep your metabolism going, and curb your appitite..b/c if you skip a meal, you become soooo hungry for the next that you overeat and think that you need to throw up to get it out..
SO just start eating right...and know that if you slip a few times it is OK and you just start over...
Good Luck!

Obviously, bulimia is a psychological disorder and to overcome it you need psychological help. Seek it quickly because bulimia can really do a number on your body. It will leave you with nasty teeth, it can disrupt your body's natural balance of electrolytes and this can lead to death. Go talk to someone, you might try your school nurse.

You have to get professional help. I sturggled with this and anorexia for years and no matter how much you WANT to stop, you just can't without professional help.
Look up counselors in your area who specialize in eating disorders. See which ones your insurance accepts.
Go to www.anad.org. They have a variety of eating disorder recovery resources. Also, look up EDA (eating disorders anonymous) groups in your area. THey offer free support groups that are very helpful.
Good luck
