Poohcat: It could not have been "God's hope" that they would turn around because he already knew they would not.

He knew only Noah would believe him beforehand, so it makes no difference how many people were warned.

What an excellent question.

Let's see the fundies squirm their way out of this one.

*Pathetic. None have even TRIED to answer the question. Its funny how some say 'just go and read the bible' but that doesnt work for some people - for us it makes us think even more - we're not good at sticking our head in the sand like ignorant fundamentalists who hide from reality.*

It was a lovely point - you can imagine some of these children who drowned could have grown up to be wonderful caring people but their evil ogre of a creator wouldn't let them. Why do people worship such a vile creature?

Interesting.... if I break your question down I find that you believe we can inherit traits from god, also you believe that god makes mistakes, I know there was a reprieve god gave Noah after the flood but he gave Noah this info to warn everyone else.I think it is a mistake to judge any story in the bible due to the fact that it has been rewritten so many times the real story could have evolved into something completely different. to be benevolent is to be righteous. As it says in the book of Matthew in reference to Noah the hour is unknown righteous or not shouldn't you be on your best behavior so someone like Noah wont have to come save you.

No, I doubt it. If you read the Bible it clearly states that only ONE MAN was found to still love God at that point. That man was Noah. He was not only warned of the impending flood but told to warn all other men as well. It was God's hope that some of them would turn their lives around and start living decently again. They did not and were lost because of it. Mankind always makes their own decision when it comes to whether or not to love God. That is how we were created.

HI 6000,

This appears as another angle at: if God were real/omniscient then he wouldn't have done.

I think that your use of the concept of omniscience is somehow misapplied. Let me try to explain. Omniscient, as we have agreed before is all knowing. God is, we are not. However, being all knowing does not produce limitations it produces options.

For example, I love engines. I love the production of torque and power that may be achieved. As I have learned more about engines I have learned that there are a vast number of methods that may be used to create a signifcant amount of force. Different engines even use entirely different principles to generate force, the more you learn about them the more options you have to achieve the same result. Such is the case with most areas of thought. That is a natureal and demostratable fact. God being all knowing must have a vast array of options to achieve the same eventual desired result. The indication that he could have done X instead of Y does not negate that he did Y. Maybe he could have but being all knowing does not mean or indicate that one must act in any particular way.

God acts, as he will, for his purposes which is to bring to past the inmortality and eternal life of man. There are many methods to achieve an end. Just because you, I, man's science or other venues of thought have not yet grasped the true intent or method of God does not mean he does not exsist.

He does, he loves us and allows us to experience and make choices for ourselves. You can deny that and hold to some unproven mathmatical priciple that is limiting to your ability to progress, if you so desire that is your choice.

But realize that you do not "Know" the truth of your held believe any more than you "Know" God does not exsist. You often state you "know" these things. You do not, they are unproven principles even to the science you seem to revier. I respect and try to understand your desire to void the potentail aqusiton of truth. I so far fial in my understanding at what drives you to this end but I do try to understand.

I "Know" that God does exsist. I have, not only the vast undeniable evidences of nature and order achieved in an eternal sense through natural law but, an undeniable confirmation of the truth.

I would never ask or expect that you or anyone else accept my knowlege as your truth. I would, however, exhort you to be broader in your study of truth (and I am not just suggesting you read the Bible). As you explore more broadly and gain more knowlege, possiblities will open and increase, not be limited and narrow as so many men attempt to do. The latter is counter to natural law and as such counter to the truth.

Love ya still!

Good point, I'm gonna cleanse the world of unrighteousness.......for a generation. That darned Noah just wasn't a good enough father figure, and must have spared the rod.

God doesn't make mistakes and I can clearly tell you are not a descendant of Noah.

No. Noah was chosen because he listened to God; and God sent him two of every animal to Noah. Noah was chosen because he was faithful to God.

no he didnt. but he hoped that after the flood that people would not embrace the sinful revelry that caused his descision to flood the earth in the first place.

Instead of baiting with loaded questions why not spend some time reading the story for yourself? You might be surprised as to what you could learn and it would also give your mind some new input.
