I wish I knew more about it honestly. From what I think I know,
the world reached untolerable levels of sin. Therefore, God wiped it all out and saved a tiny bit of the people (Noah and family) to restart. I imagine God had a good idea of what the future would bring after the flood, and I'm assuming that he figured it would go a different path than it had prior to the flood world.

That brings up another interesting point, what has God planned for the world's people to be like since the flood, if he did plan on them acting and being different. Didn't he think, with our new and improved education and technology, that we'd figure out how to be true and good?

Good morning meat,
This is a really good question -\
Yeah, God knew that sin would persist after the flood, just because its the nature of the flesh to sin; but:
The flood was way more important than that,
here's why:
Noah was a preacher - he preached against Angels, who on the order of satan, left their habitations and came to earth to seduce and marry human women - they esspecially wanted to get Noahs daughters to participate, but Noah wouldn't have it, of course. You can read of these Angelic beings in the only Chapter of Jude. Anyway, children were being born of these marriages, and the reason they wanted Noahs daughters was because this was Satans second attempt in this earth age, to pollute the pure bloodline, that down the generations, womb-to-womb, would come the Christ.
Anyway, the flood was to kill off these hybrids that were being born, and already born, called "geba", which translated means giants.
They were a people of large stature. This is why it says "they were giving and taking in marriage right up until those went into the ark";
Giving and taking in marriage to the influx of these Angelic beings.
Whats really cool is that the book of Revelation tells us that the end will be "just as it was in the days of Noah" , and according to the original manuscripts, these Angels are commin' back.
Ut uh...

WOW - got some ugly answers already this morning. Is it because its Monday? God wanted to save anyone that would get on the ark. Just as today. But people still refuse to accept Him, so He will destroy the earth again. Except it won't be a flood. Mankind will be responsible, just like before with the flood, but this time it will be obvious.

Because the sinfullness of the people was so great and wide spread that it threatened to pervert all humanity with it`s evil, and so after repeated warnings which did nothing to stop it God sent the flood before even the last few good people were either corrupted or murdered by the sinners.

Because after the great flood, God decided that he would never again destroy mankind. That is what the symbol of the rainbow is in the convent that he made with men; to never destroy the planet in that way.

Because he was making an example. So that we would know that he has power over of us, but is kind enough to give us free will and choice. besides, as long as there is good there will always be sin and he knows that.

i would not say that it did not work...how do you know that it did not work...may be he wanted the consequences of flooding to take place which cannot be directly created by him...and only by flooding...so he did flooding and got the consequences which led him to the work that he wanted to do....which would be the after story...

It rid the earth of the nephilim.
It stop wicked spirit creatures from materializing.
It gave the earth a cleansed aroma ....for awhile.
Plus the whole event could be considered an insight on our times.
