It's been ages since I last exercised, so I'm really out of shape. I've recently tried to start doing Pilates, but when I try to do the beginner-level exercises, it's damned near impossible. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Seriously, just keep at it, there's no other way to get into pilates. It is hard to start, because they're different movements than your body's used to, but that's what those videos are for - they'll improve alot of things about you with continued use, your breathing, flexibility, balance, among other things, so don't give yourself a hard time, and there's always the pause button and rewind. Don't worry, it will end up being nice and relaxing once it all clicks ;)

I work out with free weights 4 times a week and have for almost 2 years now. I just started pilates about 3 weeks ago and I was sore after my first 2 classes so I would say that for someone that hasn't exercised it would definately be hard. Just stick it out and it will get better. No pain - no gain right?

There is no substitute for persistance. Eventually you will be able to do them, and it won't take long.
