I too think that the cabinets should be an off white, or even a very very VERY pale orange. I think the hardware would look nice as a faux rust.

From what I am picturing, I love the contrast of the cabinets and paint that is going to look awesome. Now for the knobs, I don't think it would look good to have orange. I would either have white knobs or brushed pewter.

I painted my kitchen a couple different shades or Orange and I love it. I also noticed Oprah had orange walls in her house.
Nope, leave the handles on the white cabinets white. If you think this is too plain, go to home depot and buy new handles, they have tons of cute and fancy ones. Orange handles would be too distracting and look like you had lost your mind.

I would paint the cabinets off-white, because I think white against such a warm color might be a little garish. With off-white cabinets, orange knobs would be okay.

I think it depends on the size of the knobs. If they are pretty small or thin than it might look alright if it was orange. Otherwise I think that it might look odd. I think you should go with silver knobs. But if you have to paint them I would choose black.

At least match up the knobs to the wall colour. Orange is tricky. Too many shades of it can be gross. Good luck!
