I would really like for my cat 2 be able 2 roam around the house without supervision instead of having 2 keep him in the bathroom while everyone is asleep and while we're gone during the day, but im afraid he will get into things because during the day we have 2 knock him off of counters and take things away from him b/c he chews them up.. soo... any advice on what to do?

Buy the cat some toys to play with...and a Cat Condo that goes up pretty high (cats like being up high).

If he gets on top of something you don't want him on then raise your voice and squirt him with some water...they hate that. It should work after a couple times. Cats know when they do something they are not supposed to ONLY after you condition them to realize that it is wrong.

Locking him in the bathroom is probably making it worse because when he gets out he wants to get into everything. Be patient because cats are individuals much like humans (sometimes they just do want they want to do, when they want to do it & how they want to do it. GOOD LUCK!

Is he just a youngin? During the evenings when you are home, keep a water pistol loaded and ready so when he gets into mischief you can squirt him. That will discourage a cat quicker than anything else! He really shouldn't have to be locked up all day. Clear out anything he shouldn't be into (including plants which can be toxic!) and let him have roam of at least a couple rooms.

Number one decide if you want a cat. Have you ever seen a documentary about lions? They pretty much stealthily go where -ever they want. My daughter has 4 cats, all black. The decorated the Christmas tree and the next morning it was in the floor. They bought one of those climbing trees with flat places to lay because they love looking and being outside. As they grew older they settled down alot and when I stayed all night they would sleep with me and not wake me up. Before it was over tho the cats ended up outside. They will shred your shower curtain. This is their nature. Like dogs get in the trash. I could not have cats running wild in my house, I would end up on the ceiling if one jumped on me. Good luck-our dogs stay in the kitchen where the doggy door is. Put the cat in a cage until older and trained, let them out as often as possible.

while your home and you see your cat jumping on the counter or knocking over things, get a cheap squirt gun, and when hes doing something he souldnt just give him a squirt, he should learn soon after he starts getting sprayed, and as for the chewing just keep those things out of reach for him, and you could also squirt him while hes chewing, he should learn worked for my cat

How old is your cat? Unless he's a mischievous kitten, he should be just fine: My husband and I let our kitties have the run of the house when we're gone for the weekend and seldom have much trouble because of it.

1.take him to the vet
2.leave him in your room for a few minutes
3.take him out & look for anything broken
4.If so,take anyting breakable and plants away
5.If not,you could leave him in the house alone, but still take everything breakable & plants away.

Thats what cats do. Locking him up up that much is cruel.
