I did the same thing just over two years ago. I left the USA for Asia. You may want to try getting a job teaching English..ESL(English as a second language). Japan has many opportunity in this area and the main qualifications is that you are a native English speaker and you have a college degree. Check out any ESL sites...Dave's ESL is a good one. With most of these jobs they offer visa help, airfare and housing...Japan is more expensive to live and work in than other Asia countries, but check it out. I started in South Korea and now I am in my second year in China.

If you want to move to Japan, search the internet for companies that hire English teachers to teach in Japan. It might be the easiest way to get a working visa. Then, when you are there teaching English, you can look around and see what other opportunities exist. I know of people who have taught English there for years.

You must obtain your passport first by having copies of your birth certificate, drivers license or anything that has a photo ID with you on it. If money is a problem it's unfortunate for me to say that you probably won't be going anywhere. Although you could get an expense paid job there or if you know someone there.
