I just had a dental implant placed in my upper jaw. A bone graft was done as well. I'm told I've to wait about four months before the tooth can be placed.
I was wondering what it feels like when waiting for the implant to fuse with the bone. Do you feel anything in your gums? I don't feel anything at all and wonder if it is normal. How do I know it is healing ?

Honey don't listen to goofy people that stay stupid things. Implants do NOT break! I have 14 implants and they were wonderful. I have 8 on top and 6 on the bottom. The fact you do not feel anything is really good news. Is your gums normal pink? Then you will be fine.

Write me anytime if you want an implant buddy if you have questions or fears. I will do my best.

No you will not feel anything different. The changes are on a hisotlogical basis and this is the usual amt of time that is taken for the implant ot fuse with bone microscopically. This time is important so that when teeth do get placed, the implants are strong. I use the analogy of a house foundation--it is poured and you need to wait for it to dry and harden, then only can you put your fancey exepnsive house over it.

So relax you wont feel any pain or any thing. You willknow that it is coming on nicely and healing if the gum over it is a normal colour like your other gum and it should not be painful or red and inflamed (now this is like 3 weeks after the implants have been placed and the stitches have been taken out)

I did not have a bone graft but did have three dental implants in my lower jaw. I felt a twinge every now and then, but nothing painful. You don't really know that it is healing or at least I didn't. I was checked a few times by the oral surgeon. I only had to wait three months but then I did not have a bone graft either.

Good luck to you. I am sure everything will turn out just fine.

Well the fact you feel no pain is great actually, means they did a good job.

It basically needs to "set", to heal and to be good and solid before they screw in the tooth or teeth. My understanding is one post can hold several teeth.

There's no reason to believe they will "break" as they are metal and the teeth made of very strong materials, possibly even metal themselves except for the outside so there shouldn't be any complications.

The only problem is if you ever need to get an MRI done you might not be able to with metal there. You will have to cross that bridge when you get to it. Maybe ask your doctor about it. Titanium can go through an MRI but not metal...the magnets will rip attract it and you can just imagine.

Other than that you should have no problems whatsoever.

Graft? they usually use a liquid and inject that into the jaw area and it becomes 'bone.' Occassionally if feels like it's fuein or what ever.

The implants really aren't worth the money. They break.
