You and about 50,000 other guys all want the same thing. Problem is..... when they go to the Car of Tomorrow next year, it pretty much standardizes everything about the cars' construction. Body panels, frames, etc. etc. will all be the same, so no one will be able to build an advantage into the car. Because of the standardization of the cars' components, the race teams will be probably be downsizing the number of personnel in their shops in an effort to save money. That will most likely mean that guys who are now employed as fabricators may be looking for jobs elsewhere.

My family works for NASCAR. If you don't have an inside lead, it's gonna be hard to get any job w/ NASCAR. FYI- Drivers are trained to be drivers. They are not converted crew members. If you want to drive the best thing to do is to race anything with four(or two) wheels. Then you have to be the best! If you're not the best, you will not be approached and asked to drive a car. Most drivers started racing go-carts, or four wheelers when they were kids.
My father started out welding, he also had his own drag car that he raced. Eventually, other drivers were asking him to work on thier cars. This caught the attention of Rick Hendrick, who eventually offered him a position in the shop. My dad accepted and then he worked his way up the ladder to Crew Chief. Since then he has left Hendricks and gone on to Ginn Racing.
Welding may be the key, but you have to find a way to get your foot in the door. Many do this by working on drag cars, bikes, indy cars......the list can go on and on. But remember, you must be the best welder out there. You have to get noticed. If you have no experience working in this type of industry, your resume will find it's way into the "Do Not Call" file.
Good luck. Get some experience. Even if it involves sweeping the floor of a shop. That's how one of my brothers learned the trade. He swept the floors, and he paid close attention to what was going on around him. Then, he was lucky enough to have someone take him under their wing teach him.
DON'T LET PEOPLE TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN'T! You just have to have the will and the skills.

Jobs will be hard to get in Nascar unless you have an inside man that will help you out. Plus there is about 1,000,000 people out there that would love to work for a team. Myself I would love to drive a hauler from track to track, but I know I wont ever get that job. I dont want to say dont waste your time, so instead, I will say go to Mooresville, NC and visit the shops and put your name and info in. Good luck.
Oh - you'll never be a driver unless you have been a stockcar driver for a while.

Check out jayski.com. They have a section devoted to jobs and schools for NASCAR. It's on the left-hand side about half-way down under the section "Other". Good Luck!
BTW-if you should be so lucky and something actually happens for you, I would expect a generous finders fee.

There is alot more to driving than you think. Just because you can build them doesnt make you a race car driver.

Wishful thinking, you better know someone that drives one of the NASCAR cars, or your chances are slim to none.
Right now I am leaning to none.
Hope that helps
